This Week at the Market – June 3, 2018
These early weeks at the Market offer some delicious, fleeting pleasures, such as this green garlic from Growing Family Farms. Green garlic is tender baby garlic, a kinder, gentler version of its grown-up self, and only available for a few short weeks. The Growing Family folks will have some this week, and will also have certified organic nursery stock including slicing tomatoes, heirlooms, Roma, San Marzano, cherry tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and potted herbs; fresh produce includes cucumbers, romaine, green and red butter lettuce, green garlic, fresh cut herbs, Swiss chard, and kale.
Fisher Hill Farm is bringing rhubarb, radish, asparagus, bok choi, Swiss chard, scallions, green garlic, salad mix, sunflower shoots, microgreens, and more, and will have fresh chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Dearhaven Farm will have certified organic, spray-free asparagus, celery, lettuce (large romaine and others), spinach, beet greens, parsley, tarragon, cilantro, dill, and pac choy.
Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh cuts of pasture-raised pork (chops, shoulder roasts, steaks, spare ribs, tenderloin, sausage, leaf fat, bones, organ meats) as well as certified organic eggs and fresh whole chickens and chicken parts including boneless breast, leg quarters, tenders, wings, feet, frames, and organs. Bolton Farms will have lettuce bouquets, butterhead bibb lettuce, spring mix, arugula, watercress, red Russian kale, Tuscan kale, Swiss chard, dandelion greens, microgreens, bok choi, tatsoi, and mustard greens.
Deep Root Farm is bringing spring radishes, salad mix, baby kale, kale, chard, spinach, kohlrabi, and scallions. Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pasture-raised pork, eggs from free-ranging hens, and fresh tender young grilling chickens – all meats and eggs raised without soy, corn, or wheat and certified organic; Della will also have raw wildflower honey, muffins made mostly with farm-raised ingredients, and essential oil soaps made from farm fats and other special farm-raised ingredients.
K&S Bischoping will have Jonagold, Macoun, Gala, and Golden Delicious apples for crunchy sweet snacks. Lighthouse Gardens will have the first organic cherry tomatoes of othe season; certified organic herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chards, Asian greens, beets, leeks, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, and many others; plus an enormous selection of succulents in pots, plants, and hanging baskets as well as perennials, hostas, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, patio tomato planters, and organic potting soil.
Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture-raised, heritage breed, organically-fed pork sausages, chops, and spare ribs for grilling. Bristol Mushrooms will have lion’s mane, king oyster, and shiitake mushrooms, freshly-picked and certified organic. Clearview Farm is bringing rhubarb, scallions, dried herbs, organic eggs, dried black beans, buckwheat, and 100% grass-grown beef in a variety of cuts.
Seaway Trail Honey is bringing spring to fall seasonal honeys and honeycomb, certified Kosher, cute mini bears, nuts in honey, infused honeys, pure beeswax, and candles, all from the small scale, small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugard; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.
Newbury Park Pastries will have proper pork, chicken, veggie, shepherds, panang, bacon double cheeseburger, shrimp panang, and pulled pork pot pies as well as raspberry rhubarb, banana and coconut cream pies, and cut out cookies. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including buffalo chicken; kalamata, feta, and sundried tomato; and three cheese, as well as fresh pasta and a variety of strombolis.
Lavender Moon will have all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off, soaps, lotions, salves, culinary blends, and anti-itch spray, and will offer samples of hibiscus tea. Farmhouse Table is bringing a selection of fresh salads, pies, and cookies.
Flour City Pasta will have a wide variety of pastas and offers this recipe for rigatoni. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free traditional and reduced sugar berry jams and goat milk soaps. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing cookies (traditional and gluten free/vegan), chocolate fudge, chocolate chip and peanut granola bars, and almond/coconut granola bars.
Fuego Coffee’s drink special is Dutch Quarter – like French Quarter, but chocolate. Le Petit Poutine is excited to bring its hands-down most popular special to the Market – Chicken French poutine; sausage gravy poutine will also be offered.
RocBucha is offering bottles of ginger, blueberry mint, pineapple ginger, and strawberry basil kombucha, and will have ginger, blueberry mint, and pear on tap for cup and growler. JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing mom’s mac & cheese; blueberry, mixed berry, peanut butter brownie, and lemon blueberry muffins; carrot cake; peanut butter balls; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; four layers of lemon surprise; rhubarb pie and blackberry pie; cheesecake; super brownies; beyond chocolate layer cake; and assorted surprises.
