Beautiful September days, and so much beautiful September produce at the Market — it’s a lovely time of year in so many ways. The only problem is deciding which of the gorgeous, perfectly ripe and perfectly flavorful vegetables and fruits to buy, knowing that soon enough the summer produce will give way to fall crops. We love them all.
This Sunday at the Market Growing Family Farm will have certified organic tomatoes — heirloom, slicer, saladette, plum, cherry, and grape; sweet bull horn peppers; banana peppers; poblanos; eggplant; cucumbers; summer salad mix; romaine; celery; fresh dragon’s tongue beans; coco beans; chard; dandelion; okra; tomatillo; fresh and potted herbs; and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic heirloom tomato, cherry tomato, parsnip, sweet pepper, eggplant, new potatoes (red, gold, russet), sweet onion, cooking onion, shallot, garlic, leek, kale, spaghetti squash, delicata squash, acorn squash, zucchini, parsley, cilantro, basil, and fennel.
Andy’s Specialty Produce will have certified organic red slicing tomatoes, salad mix, seedless cucumbers, arugula, carrots, new red and yellow potatoes, red beets, kale, radishes, pea shoots, romaine lettuce, garlic, sweet onions, and green summer cabbage. Squash Blossom Farm is bringing lettuce mix, arugula, Little Gem lettuce, frisee, escarole, kale, chard, radish, radicchio, carrot, beet, scallion, sweet onion, cipollini, watermelon, Italian sweet pepper, eggplant, heirloom slicing tomato, cherry tomato, zucchini, cucumber, celery, parsley, cilantro, dill, sage, and thyme.
Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes; heirloom tomatoes; carrots; bunches of basil; sweet peppers; jalapenos, Hungarian hot wax peppers; celery; scallions; eggplant; garlic; beets; lettuce bouquets; mixed salad greens; baby leaf spinach; rainbow Swiss chard; kale; radishes; green and purple kohlrabi; zucchini and summer squash; tomatillos, ground cherries; certified organic herb and vegetable transplants for summer succession planting; ginger, bay laurel, and fig plants; succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; summer flowering perennials; hardy garden mums, hostas; lettuce bowls; herb planters; berry plants; and organic potting soil.
K&S Bischoping will have freestone peaches, blackberries, and apples — Zestar!, Pristine, and Paula Red as well as an assortment of heirloom apples. Bolton Farms is bringing soil-grown heirloom tomatoes, spaghetti squash, sweet corn, and amethyst and green beans, and hydroponic spring mix, lettuce bouquets, butterhead bibb lettuce, basil, bok choi, tatsoi, Tuscan kale, Red Russian kale, parsley, watercress, and curly kale.
Lagoner Farms will have lots of peaches; nectarines; donut peaches; prune, red, and yellow plums, the last of the apricots; raspberries; blackberries; blueberries; pears, and new crop apples — Paula Red, early gold, Zestar!, and early Honeycrisp. Chicory Blue Gardens will have zinnias, ornamental grasses, statice, cosmos, amaranth in different colors, dahlias, red and blue ageratum, Chinese forget-me-nots, celosia, and sunflowers.
R&M Bischoping will have heirloom slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, baby zucchini, cucumbers, tomatillos, green beans, seasonal honeys (spring, summer, and fall), and honey and goat’s milk handmade artisan soaps. Trademarks Flower Farm is offering a build-your-own bouquet bar, lots of lush and colorful mixed bouquets, bunches of super-long lasting lisianthus, gorgeous dahlias, sunflowers, and zinnias.
Shannon Brook Farm is bringing certified organic, pasture-raised heritage breed pork: no-nitrate smoked hams, smoked ham slices, smoked and fresh hocks, three types of no-nitrate bacon, ground, loin roasts, two types of chops, six types of sausage, fresh pork belly, tenderloins, soup bones, and leaf lard; grass-fed lamb raised on organic pastures: shoulder and leg roasts, loin, leg, neck, and rib chops, ground, shanks, short ribs, and organs (kidneys, hearts, and livers); certified organic, free-range poultry: broiler chickens – wholes and halves, chicken necks, livers, feet, gizzards, and whole ducks; and certified organic free-range chicken eggs.
Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic tomatoes, cantaloupe, ground cherries, jalapeno peppers, cucumbers, fresh Genovese and holy basil, squash (cousa, patty pan, and zucchini), Portuguese and curly kale, dried dill, holy basil-tulsi tea, spearmint, truly free-range eggs, organically-fed 100% grass-grown Angus beef in a variety of cuts (bones, roasts, burger, liver, and more), and Genesee Valley Bean certified organic dry black and pinto beans.
Tripleberry Farm will have giant pesticide-free blackberries and pesticide-free blueberries plus a full array of pesticide-free berry jams. Stonecrop Farm is bringing pasture-raised pork chops, steaks, spare ribs, ground pork, sausage, bacon, deli ham, hocks, organ meats, bones, trotters, and rendered lard, plus certified organic fresh whole chickens and feet.
Bristol Mushrooms will have fresh-picked, certified organic lion’s mane and king oyster mushrooms, Brain Booster lion’s mane coffee (now with 40% more in each package), Brain Booster lion’s mane powder, and dried lion’s mane — simply re-hydrate in a soup or stew. Happy HoovesFarm will have beef from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cows and cuts of pork and sausage from pasture-raised pigs; all animals are raised outside on pasture with no corn, no soy, and no wheat organic feed, except cows which only eat grass.
Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have maple mustard; maple fudge; bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; pure NYS maple syrup in flavors golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat-free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body-care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.
Marty’s Meats is featuring fried chicken & biscuit sandwiches, plus Fisher Hill Farm egg and cheese sandwiches. Flour City Pasta is featuring pumpkin pappardelle.
RocBucha is offering the first apple-cinnamon kombucha of the season, plus ginger and blackberry-orange kombucha on tap, and will have bottled flavors including ginger, strawberry-basil, pineapple-ginger, blueberry-mint, raspberry-lemonade, and apple-cinnammon; bring any bottle (RocBucha’s or other brand) to fill for $1 off. Brian’s Kitchen will have cookies, granola bars, and chocolate fudge.
Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, panang, shepherds, and mussels and green curry pot pies along with sugar cookies, rugelach, and tarts; Kate will be sampling her new line of shrubs including strawberry, lemon ginger, and mock Mary. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including six cheese, feta & spinach, and butternut squash, plus a wide variety of strombolis.
Boy and the Baker will have seasonal brioche, almond brioche, soft pretzel, pecan maple sticky buns, brioche twist, assorted muffins, coconut rocher, cherry almond granola, roasted banana bread, and chocolate chunk and cinnamon oatmeal raisin cookies. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotions, teas, culinary blends, and all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off.
JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing blueberry muffins, blueberry blackberry raspberry muffins, apple cinnamon muffins, mixed berry cobbler, lemon blueberry cake (fruit from Lagoner Farms), chocolate brownie muffins, grandma’s breakfast cake, carrot cake, cheesecake brownies, monster brownies, mixed berry tarts (fruit from Lagoner Farms), lemon blueberry blackberry raspberry cake (fruit from Lagoner Farms), apple cinnamon sugar pound cake (fruit from Lagoner Farms), and Mom’s mac & cheese.
