This Week at the Market – May 28, 2017
Grandma always said to wait until Memorial Day to plant the garden, so here it is! Grandma says now! Farmers at Brighton Farmers’ Market will have lots of certified organic vegetable, herb, flower, and succulent plants this week. Growing Family Farms will have organic nursery stock including tomato plants — Sungold, Sweet Million cherry tomatoes, Purdens (Brandywine), Green Zebras, Pink Boars, and Velecia; assorted sweet peppers including Tolli’s Italian roaster and Cali Wonder; Listada de Gandia bicolor eggplant; and potted herbs; also fresh greens for the table including Swiss chard and kale; chicken and duck eggs; raw wild flower honey; and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice.
Lighthouse Gardens is bringing super sweet cherry tomatoes and lots of certified organic plants: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chards, Asian greens, beets, leeks, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, succulents in pots and hanging baskets, perennials, flowering hanging baskets, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, and patio tomato planters with ripe tomatoes. Buzz’s Garden will have potted vegetable and herb transplants for the garden plus fennel, lettuce baskets, arugula, spinach, bok choi, radishes, turnips, and microgreens.
Shannon Brook Farm is featuring organically-fed, pasture-raised nitrate-free bacons: guanciale, regular bacon, cottage bacon, and bacon ends. Dearhaven Farm is bringing spinach, beet greens, kale, kohlrabi, lettuce (bibb, romaine, oakleaf, and Salanova), tender pea greens, large sweet leeks, and fresh herbs, all field grown, freshly picked, and certified organic.
Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh, never frozen cuts of pasture raised heritage pork including chops, shoulder roasts, spare ribs, and smoked bacon; pasture raised ducks; certified organic eggs; and chicken — whole chickens, breasts, tenders, leg quarters, wings, backs, and feet. K&S Bischoping will have lots of tasty, crisp apples.
Lagoner Farms is bringing asparagus and homemade jams and applesauces. Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have fresh cut chicken for the grill, 100% grass fed and grass finished beef, cuts of pasture raised pork, all organic and raised without soy or corn, raw fall wildflower honey, rhubarb, and farmstead jams, candles, and soaps made with organic ingredients from the farm.
Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic salad mix, baby kale, arugula, radishes, pea shoots, beets, sweet potatoes, and garlic powder. Bolton Farms is bringing lettuce bouquets, spring mix, watercress, kale, parsley, bok choi, cilantro, mustard greens, and microgreens. Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic shiitake and lion’s mane mushrooms.
Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have fresh chives, cilantro, dill, thyme, oregano, parsley, rhubarb, spearmint, and dried herbs — sage, parsley, chives, pepper flakes, chamomile tea, and peppermint tea. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing pure NYS maple syrup (golden, amber, dark, very dark), maple cream spread, granulated maple sugar, maple garlic rub, maple mustard, maple coffee, maple tea, wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats, soft and hard sugar shapes, and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.
Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, panang, shepherds and veggie pot pies plus coconut cream and raspberry tarts and strawberry rhubarb pies. JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing baked macaroni and cheese, muffins (blueberry, mixed berry, and brownie), classic carrot cake, lemon blueberry cake, star cakes, triple decker chocolate ganache cake, grandma’s breakfast cake, chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies, pineapple upside down cake, cheesecake brownie, chocolate peanut butter balls, and potent dark chocolate bourbon balls.
Pasta Classics is bringing ravioli including sausage and roasted garlic, feta and spinach, and crab and shrimp, plus fresh pasta, cheese gnocchi, and a variety of baked stuffed breads. R&M Bischoping will have honey soaps, beeswax lotion bars and lip balms, honey, and creamed honey.
Flour City Pasta is featuring pesto radiatore and offering two recipes, one with asparagus and the caprese salad recipe. Seaway Trail Honey is bringing raw, local, seasonal award-winning honeycomb and honey, from spring to fall pure wildflower varieties, harvested from the bees by the shore of Lake Ontario and certified Kosher, plus live honey bees for the non-profit NY Bee Wellness Inc. educational display.
Lavender Moon is bringing lots of all natural Bug Off, Tick Me Off, and anti-itch spray, along with soaps, salves, lotions, and culinary blends for the barbecue. Brian’s Kitchen will have cookies, fudge, and granola bars. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free traditional and reduced sugar jams and goat milk soaps.

This week we welcome staff from Brighton Memorial Library, who will have information about summer programs at the Library.
