New Crops Arrive at Long Season Market
Long Season Winter Farmers Market
Sundays 1 to 4 pm
Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road
easy access from S. Winton, between Westfall and 590
Tender young things are growing on the farms, and our farmers are harvesting the first spring crops for this week’s Long Season Winter Farmers’ Market. Banish the endless winter blues with new produce from the high tunnel at Fisher Hill Farm, including baby spinach, baby gourmet lettuce mix (six varieties of lettuce and lots of beautiful color), long French white icicle radishes, plus lots of storage crops — beets, cabbage, carrots, parsnips, rutabaga, potatoes, onions, and frozen half turkeys. Phil and Sandi will also have new fresh chicken and chicken liver; the chickens were fed organic grain from Lakeview Organic Grain in Penn Yan.
Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce returns to the market with tender, sweet soil-grown spinach, salad mix, fresh sprouts, and pastured eggs; the farm is in the process of becoming certified organic. Blue Moon Bend will have its first batch of 100% goat milk Frost Moon feta cheese. Bolton Farms is bringing lots of hydroponic greens, including lettuce bouquets, spring mix, Boston bibb, Red Russian kale, Swiss chard, spinach, arugula, watercress, parsley, bok choi, and tatsoi.
Small World Food will have Jewish rye bread and pickled onions. Wohlschlegels’ Naples Maple Farm is bringing a variety of maple products including the new 12-ounce traditional glass jug with both light and medium Grade A amber syrups. Tripleberry Farm will have pesticide-free berry jams, berry brownies, fat-free apple bars, and soaps from local goat’s milk. Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, veggie, and shepherd’s pot pies. Tocoti Chocolate will be sampling its new 80% Peru/Dominican blend micro-batch chocolate. Nordic Farm Jams will have lots of fresh jams, jellies, and pickles. There will also be eggs, dairy, sustainably-raised meat, fresh and dried pasta, bread, cookies, and much more.
