It’s National Farmers’ Market Week

This Week at the Market – August 6, 2017

Happy National Farmer Market Week! Every week is a celebration at Brighton Farmers’ Market, but this week we will be especially grateful for the farmers and producers who bring us the finest local, sustainably produced foods every Sunday. Come celebrate with us!

This week Growing Family Farms will have certified organic heirloom tomatoes, artisanal grape and cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, Asian and Italian eggplant, Japanese cukes (bulk pickling quantities), romaine, sunnies, summer squash, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic scallions, artichokes, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, green cabbage, napa cabbage, basil, cilantro, beets, celery, and garlic.

Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing organic 100% grass fed and grass finished beef, organic pork and sausage from pasture-raised pigs fed no corn or soy, organic chicken and eggs from free-ranging chickens fed no soy or corn, and farmstead soaps, candles, and jams made with organic ingredients from the farm, plus gluten free muffins. Dearhaven Farm will have organically grown spray free peaches, green beans, shallots, garlic, cherry tomatoes, sweet Walla Walla and Tropea (sweet red) onions, Adirondack Red potatoes, zucchini, chard, romaine lettuce, parsley, basil, thyme, and sage, all certified organic.

Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce is bringing certified organic slicing tomatoes, carrots, spinach, slicing and pickling cucumbers, beets, turnips, salad mix, arugula, red leaf lettuce, green peppers, plum tomatoes, sweet onions, yellow snap beans, hardneck garlic, green cabbage, pea shoots, and baby kale. Lighthouse Gardens will have organic cherry tomatoes, red and orange sweet peppers, green and yellow striped zucchini, cucumbers, beets, Easter egg and hot Ostergruss radishes, rainbow Swiss chard, baby kale, lettuce bouquets, salad mix, and garlic, as well as chrysanthemums, unique succulent planters, perennials, larger pots of herbs, and cut sunflowers.

K&S Bischoping will have apples — Pristine, Duchess of Oldenberg, Red Astrachan, and Gravenstein, plus peaches and nectarines. Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs is bringing sungold cherry tomatoes, jalapeno and cayenne hot peppers, rainbow radishes, lots of fresh basil, catnip, chives, cilantro, dill, flat-leaf parsley, French tarragon, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint, and thyme, along with frozen pizza crusts and soft pretzels.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic shallots, sweet onions, cooking onions, scallions, garlic, tomatoes including cherry and Roma, summer squash, basil, sweet peppers, and hot peppers, plus Wild Thistle Herbal products. Bolton Farms will have lettuce mixes, spring mix, Boston bibb lettuce, arugula, watercress, mustard greens, basil, sweet corn, mild white turnips, heirloom tomatoes, and kale — Red Russian, Tuscan, and curly.

Stonecrop Farm is featuring fresh pasture-raised, organically fed whole duck, a full selection of fresh cuts of pasture raised pork (including chops, roasts, and steaks), certified organic eggs, and fresh chicken, including whole birds, boneless breast, leg quarters, wings, feet, frames, and organs. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free blueberries and blackberries, possibly some fall strawberries, and pesticide-free berry jams.

Seaway Trail Honey
is bringing raw summer honey harvested Saturday with active enzymes; other raw, local seasonal award-winning honeycomb and honey from spring to fall pure wildflower varieties from the bees by the shore of Lake Ontario and certified Kosher; and live honey bees for the non-profit NY Bee Wellness educational display. Clearview Farm will have certified organic lemon and Genovese basil, truly free-range organic eggs, and various cuts of organically-fed 100% grass-grown Angus beef.

Chicory Blue Gardens will have fresh sunflowers, zinnias, and lilies in pretty bouquets, or design your own; Dana will offer floral centerpiece demonstrations at 10:00 and 11:00 am. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture-raised certified organic broiler chickens and chicken parts: livers, necks, gizzards, and feet.

Lagoner Farms will have peaches, white peaches, nectarines, red plums, yellow plums, blueberries, early gold apples, and maybe raspberries. Flowerwell is bringing colorful bouquets loaded with zinnias, sunflowers, delphinium, feverfew, and many more blooms.

Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic lion’s mane mushrooms. Lavender Moon is bringing all natural Bug Off and Tick Me Off repellents, teas soaps, lotions, and culinary blends, and will offer samples of hibiscus tea.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is featuring new products raspberry and cinnamon maple cream spread and maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; will have pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark and maple cotton candy; and will offer tastes of snappy maple mustard. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, shepherds, veggie, panang, and chicken & biscuit pot pies along with sweet pies, tarts, and galettes.

Pasta Classics is bringing ravioli flavors including six cheese, capicola, pepperjack, banana pepper, and crab & shrimp, plus new ravioli bakes for an easy heat and serve meal. JonJohn’s Bakery will have ice cold blueberry lemonade, peppers from the garden, muffins (mixed berry, brownie, and chocolate chip), raspberry cake with ganache, classic carrot cake, lemon blueberry cake, double decker lemon blueberry raspberry cake, banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts, star cakes, blueberry peach pie, blueberry pie, grandma’s breakfast cake, chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies, chocolate peanut butter balls, and dark chocolate bourbon balls.

Brian’s Kitchen is bringing cookies, chocolate fudge, almond coconut granola bars, and chocolate chip peanut butter granola bars. Eat Me Ice Cream will have cassis & cream cheese ice cream pints and hand-dipped bars (plan cassis for vegan option) featuring black currants from Ann’s Purple Produce, and blueberry and basil ice cream pints with local blueberries.

Ask a Scientist —  Each week we welcome scientists to join us at our Ask a Scientist table to answer all kinds of questions you might have about pretty much anything. Kids’ questions are welcome! Brighton Farmers’ Market celebrates the importance of science to our everyday lives, to society, to policy, and to our mission of promoting a healthier, more sustainable food system.

Flower Arranging Demo — This week Dana Dore-Hadad of Chicory Blue Gardens will demonstrate how to make a floral centerpiece, using the beautiful flowers from her fields. Stop by the Chicory Blue booth at 10 am and 11 am to see the free demonstration.

CommUnity: We Grow Better Together — This year at the Market we celebrate CommUnity; as Supervisor Moehle says, the most important part of Community is Unity. We honor those who help promote the strong, welcoming, inclusive community that we all value.
