Green and Local for St. Patrick’s Day
This Week at the Market – March 15
We’ll be celebrating all things green this St. Patrick’s week, especially as we look forward to the greening of our winter-weary world. Bolton Farms’ is bringing an abundance of green — butterhead bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, arugula, bok choi, tatsoi, escarole, micro greens, butternut squash, sweet meat squash, cilantro, parsley, Swiss chard, and kale. Growing Family Farms will have pea shoots, wheatgrass, dried shiitakes, Small World ferments and granola, and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice concentrate.
Fisher Hill Farm is bringing micro greens, green cabbage, fresh whole chicken and livers, veggies, frozen peas and corn, frozen turkey, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have freshly dug sweet carrots, garlic, garlic powder, sauerkraut, daikon radishes, green and purple cabbage, beets, and frozen tomatoes and butternut squash, all certified organic.
Fellenz Family Farm is bringing honey and certified organic potatoes, garlic, rutabaga, eggs, kale and komatsuna, and Wild Thistle herbal products. In preparation for Easter, Shannon Brook Farm is featuring grass-fed lamb shoulder roasts and leg of lamb or pasture-raised, organically-fed ham steaks and suggests this recipe.
Clearview Farm will have certified organic dried herbs; lemon mint and chocolate mint; golden and purple-top turnips; potatoes; eschallions and eschallion scallions; eggs; and dry cannelini, red merlot, and black beans. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing assorted cuts or organic 100% grass fed and finished beef and assorted cuts of organic pasture-raised, no-soy pork. Lagoner Farms will have apples, applesauces, jams, and pies.
Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic eggs, whole chickens, drumsticks, thighs, thigh quarters, and feet. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have soft maple shamrock 4-leaf clover shaped maple candy, maple mustard (great on leftover corned beef sandwiches), fresh maple cream spread, and assorted syrups. Newbury Park Pastries will have beef stew, chicken, panang, and pulled pork pot pies.
JonJohn’s Bakery returns with barbecue chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, and green beans, plus carrot cake, grandma’s breakfast cake, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cranberry cookies dipped in dark chocolate, brownies with toasted pecans with cream cheese frosting, and peach cobbler. Tripleberry Farm will have fresh spring scents of goat milk soaps including lavender, plus freshly-made pesticide-free berry jams.

The Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market is held Sunday afternoons, 1 to 4 pm, at Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road. There is a second entrance to the building just off of S. Winton Road, between Westfall and 590. The Market is sponsored by the Town of Brighton.
