Finally, Summer and Strawberries!

This Week at the Market – June 23, 2019
Happy solstice! I’m sure no one is happier at summer’s arrival than our farmers, who have endured a tough spring on the farms. Soggy fields delayed planting, and cool, gray days slowed crop growth. But summer is here, and so are the strawberries, just a little later than usual. R&M Bischoping will have pesticide-free strawberries; lots of spring, summer, and fall honey; beeswax lip balms; lots of honey and goats milk soaps; and new handmade liquid soap which features the farm’s honey to produce an extra luxurious lather. Tripleberry Farm will have its first pesticide-free strawberries of the season, plus traditional and reduced sugar berry jams.
Lagoner Farms will also have strawberries, plus asparagus, rhubarb, and apples. Squash Blossom Farm is bringing lettuce mix, spinach, head lettuce, escarole, frisee, radicchio, broccolini, summer squash, cucumber, kale, chard, carrots beets, sugar snap peas, spring onion, scallion, parsley, cilantro, basil, fennel, turnips, and squash blossom.
Growing Family Farm will have certified organic salad mix, butter lettuce, romaine hearts, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, shishito peppers, baby bell peppers, eggplant, celery, escarole, kale, rainbow chard, Italian dandelion, summer squash, garlic scapes, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Dearhaven Farm will have certified organic sugar snap peas, garlic scapes, napa cabbage, lettuce, fennel, chard, kale, kohlrabi, parsley, mint, dill, scallions, and some strawberries.
Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes; garlic scapes; a large variety of certified organic herb and vegetable transplants, including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chard, Asian greens, spinach, endive, beets, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, ginger, fig plants, and others; succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; perennials; strawberry hanging baskets with ripe strawberries; lettuce bowls; herb planters; berry plants; patio tomato planters; and organic potting soil.
Trademarks Flower Farm is bringing bunches of heavenly scented stock, peonies, Icelandic poppies, foxglove, the last ranunculus and anemones of the season, mixed bouquets that include the first snapdragons, and an assortment of succulents. Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic rainbow Swiss chard, hakurei turnips, green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, red oakleaf lettuce, summer squash (zucchini, yellow, and patty pan), squash blossoms, beets, kolibri kohlrabi, red Russian kale, starbor kale, garlic scapes, fresh herb bunches, herb and flower transplants, and Wild Thistle herbal products.
Clearview Farm will have certified organic catnip; green garlic; nettles; dried dill, basil (lemon and holy-tulsi tea), chocolate mint, and spearmint; truly free-range eggs; organically-fed 100% grass-grown Angus beef in a variety of cuts (bones, steaks, roasts, burger, liver, and more); organic buckwheat; and Genesee Valley Bean certified organic dry cannellini, black and pinto beans. Andy’s Specialty Produce is bringing certified organic slicing tomatoes, carrots, salad mix, spinach, kale, arugula, radishes, pea shoots, romaine and iceberg lettuce, potatoes, and garlic scapes.
Smugtown Mushrooms will have fresh home-grown oyster mushrooms, shiitake, and king trumpets; oyster mushroom grow kits; mushroom plug spawn to grow mushrooms outdoors in logs, and more cultivation supplies; dried reishi and chaga tea; medicinal mushroom extracts; other items for foraging needs; and homegrown fresh herbs including chives, chive flowers, fresh Greek oregano, thyme, and fresh homegrown lemon balm for tea. K&S Bischoping will have a nice variety of crunchy and tasty apples, great for out of hand eating, cooking, or baking.
Happy Hooves Farm will have fresh pasture-raised pekin duck, cuts of pork and sausages from pasture-raised pigs, and cuts and ground beef from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cows; animals are raised with no corn, no soy, and no wheat organic feed, except the cows which only eat grass. Bolton Farms is bringing soil-grown sugar snap peas, dandelion greens, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, micro greens, mustard greens, watercress, red Russian kale, Tuscan kale, curly kale, parsley, and mizuna.
Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh certified organic whole chickens and chicken feet, and pasture-raised heritage breed pork chops, shoulder roasts, steaks, spare ribs, kabob meat, ground pork, sausage, deli ham, ham steaks, bacon, hocks, organi meats, bones, trotters, and rendered lard. Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic, freshly picked lion’s mane and shiitake mushrooms, Brain Booster lion’s mane coffee, Brain Booster lion’s mane powder, and dried lion’s mane — simply re-hydrate in a soup or stew.
Shannon Brook Farm is bringing certified organic, pasture-raised heritage breed pork: fresh hams, no-nitrate smoked hams, smoked ham slices, smoked hocks, ground, soup bones, minute steaks, tenderloins, loin roasts, butt roasts, two types of chops, six types of sausage, and three types of no-nitrate bacon; grass-fed lamb raised on organic pastures: shoulder and leg roasts, three types of chops, shanks, hot Italian and chorizo sausage, riblets, lamb spare ribs; certified organic, free-range poultry: stew hens, broiler chickens – wholes and halves, chicken necks, livers, gizzards, and whole ducks; and certified organic free-range chicken eggs.
Seaway Trail Honey will have all seasonal local raw honeys from spring to fall, certified Kosher; honeycomb; cute mini bears; black walnuts, almonds, pistachios in honey; infused honeys with organic lavender, ginger, rosemary, cocoa, and cinnamon; and pure beeswax candles; stop by for a sampling and for information about bees and the different types of honey.
Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have maple mustard; maple fudge; bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; pure NYS maple syrup in flavors golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat-free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body-care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.
Boy and the Baker will have maple pecan sticky buns, assorted muffins (blueberry, hazelnut coffee cake, chocolate chip), chocolate chunk and cinnamon raisin oatmeal cookies, twice baked brioche (two ways), roasted banana bread, salted caramel popcorn, cherry almond granola, and coconut rochers.
Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, panang, shepherds, and crawfish etouffee pot pies along with rugelach, tarts, and cut out cookies. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including six and three cheese in whole wheat pasta, shiitake, garlic & asiago, and feta & spinach; fresh spinach and basil pasta; and a variety of strombolis.
Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotions, teas, culinary blends, and all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off. Brian’s Kitchen will have eight varieties of cookies, four varieties of granola bars, and two varieties of chocolate fudge.
Flour City Pasta will have lemon saffron linguine, great with seafood or local vegetables. RocBucha is bringing blueberry-mint, blackberry-orange, and pineapple-ginger kombucha on tap, and will have bottled flavors including ginger, strawberry-basil, pineapple-ginger, blueberry-mint, and blackberry-orange; bring a bottle to fill (RocBucha or another brand) and receive $1 off the bottle price.
JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing mom’s mac & cheese; lemonade; lemon dream cake with blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries; strawberry dream cake; peach cobbler; chocolate brownie muffins; peanut butter balls; chocolate bourbon balls; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; grandma’s breakfast cake; lemon blueberry cake; strawberry rhubarb cobbler; and beyond chocolate cake.
