Bike Rodeo and Strawberries

This Week at the Market – June 12, 2016
The annual Bike Rodeo returns to the Brighton Farmers’ Market this week. Kids can test their riding skills, get a bike safety checkup, and learn rules of the road — free bike helmets donated by the Brighton Police Patrolman’s Association. The Brighton Police Department and Brighton Fire Department will join us. Check here for all the details. Kids can register when they arrive.
The first strawberries of the season are here! Lagoner Farms will have lots of strawberries, as well as radishes, asparagus, rhubarb, and apples. Fisher Hill Farm is also bringing some strawberries, plus asparagus, spring mix lettuce, radishes, green garlic, salad turnips, cabbage, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onions, rutabaga, fresh chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices.
Fellenz Family Farm will have strawberries, lettuce baskets, spicy salad mix, kohlrabi, cabbage, kale, Swiss chard, honey, sorrel, arugula, and mizuna. R&M Bischoping join us with no-spray strawberries, beeswax lotion bars and lip balms, and no-spray dried beans.
Growing Family Farm is bringing four varieties of cucumbers, lettuce bouquets, triple washed salad mix, sunnies, potted basil, pasture raised eggs, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring organically-fed, pasture-raised smoked ham slices for homemade panini and suggests this recipe.
Congratulations to Buzz’s Garden, now officially certified organic! James and Hayley are bringing their certified organic Swiss chard, spinach, fresh garlic and scapes, beets, lettuce heads, baby cut lettuce mix, and kale this week.
Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic eggs, rhubarb, Callan Farms dry black beans, Italy Hill popcorn, buckwheat, fresh and dried herbs (thyme, sage, Italian oregano, Genovese basil, lemon basil, spearmint, and lemon mint), and 100% grass-fed Angus beef, ground and other cuts. Dearhaven Farm will have spinach, assorted lettuce, kohlrabi, fennel, scallions, endive, chard, kale, parsley, cilantro, dill, tarragon, arugula, mint, and some sugar snap peas, all certified organic and freshly picked.
Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes, green garlic, D’avignon and Easter Egg radishes, Hakurei turnips, and lettuce bouquets, as well as a large variety of certified organic herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chards, beets, onions, leeks, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, and many others, plus flowering annuals, perennials, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, patio pepper planters, and wheatgrass.
Stonecrop Farm is bringing pastured duck, pastured chicken, and chicken feet. Happy Hooves will have certified organic 100% grass fed and finished beef, certified organic pasture raised and soy free whole fresh chickens (plus organs and feet), baked rhubarb goodies and jams, and raw honey from the farm.
Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic scapes, green kale, red and green leaf lettuce, salad mix, spinach, arugula, Asian greens mix, radishes, Hakurei turnips, and red beets. K&S Bischoping will have a nice selection of crisp apples, a perfect snack for any weather.
Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have fresh-cut flat leaf parsley, dill, cilantro, chives, peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, sage, borage floewrs, and thyme; dried garlic leaf, chives, and dill; red clover leaf and peppermint teas; and iced herbal infusion–ice water flavored with fresh peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, and strawberries. Smugtown Mushrooms will have shiitake mushrooms, grow kits, tincture, and kombucha starters.
Seaway Trail Honey is bringing pure, local raw seasonal wildflower honeys and honeycomb, mini-bears, novelty jars with gift packaging, and will have the NY Bee Wellness educational display with live honey bees. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have three flavors of syrup (golden, amber, and dark), maple cream spread, maple garlic rub, granulated maple sugar, maple mustard, all natural maple dog biscuits, and body care products–maple vanilla soap, lotion, scrub, and lip balm.
Nordic Farm is bringing many fresh jams including strawberry rhubarb, zucchini relish, hot or mild salsa, and chunky applesauce made with K&S Bischoping apples. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, panang, shepherds, veggie, and chicken & biscuit pot pies plus quiche.
Flour City Pasta will have a wide variety of orzo pasta (riso medio) in the shape of rice, great for summer salads warm or cold. Biscotti for Everybotti is bringing a wide variety of biscotti made with organic NY wheat and other natural, organic, and local ingredients; vegan and gluten-free options available.
Pasta Classics is bringing ravioli flavors including roasted red pepper and goat cheese, sausage and roasted garlic, and black bean pepperjack and cilantro; fresh pasta flavors will be egg, tomato basil, and garlic and pepper. Tripleberry Farm will have a limited amount of pesticide-free strawberries, pesticide-free jams, and goat milk soaps.
JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing Mom’s mac and cheese, sweet potato tarts, blueberry muffins, raspberry blueberry muffins, chocolate brownie muffins, peach cobbler, strawberry rhubarb cobbler, O brownie cheesecake, lemon blueberry cake, chocolate dip cookies, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal craisin cookies, a variety of small cakes, and lemonade. Rise and Shine Bread will have English muffin bread, asiago ciabbata, rosemary focaccia, honey wheat, beer bread, raisin, sweet breads, and brownies.
Lavender Moon will have all natural mosquito, black fly and tick repellents along witih all your herbal needs; Joe will offer free samples of hibiscus cooler iced tea and a free peony blossom with any purchase. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing cookies–regular, gluten free, vegan and diabetic friendly, and chocolate fudge.
Eat Me Ice Cream will have fresh mint wasabi pea white chocolate ice creams on sugar cookie sammies (dairy and non), the Hug UP– chocolate and vanilla on chocolate and vanilla cookies (dairy), S’Mores–chocolate and toasted marshmallows on graham crackers (non-dairy), a variety of dairy and non-dairy pints, Coco Nana ice candy free pops, and Just Juice juices: Mother Earth, Green Up, Kale Ale, Melonade, Summer Mint, and Berry Red Pops.
Happy Earth Tea is bringing hot and cold teas plus a range of artisan organic losse leaf teas and herbal blends. Neno’s Gourmet Mexican food truck is featuring its Mexican sandwich, pambazo, an authentic traditional Mexican breakfast dish from Veracruz that includes chorizo with hash potato, queso fresco, and fried egg on white toast with guajillo mayo; Neno’s will also offer its regular menu. Fuego Coffee will have two cold brew options, hot coffee, and whole bean coffee.

We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. Purchase at least $10 in tokens with an EBT card, and receive $5 in bonus tokens to be used at the market to purchase EBT eligible foods. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.
