Bike Donation Day at the Market
This Week at the Market – September 17, 2017
Donate those old bikes cluttering up the garage to a really great cause! This Sunday is Bike Donation Day at Brighton Farmers’ Market. Brighton Rotary Club, in collaboration with R Community Bikes, will accept used bicycles in any condition. R Community Bike volunteers will refurbish the bikes and donate them to community members in need. Last time we did this 200 bikes were donated — let’s top that on Sunday!
This week Shady Lane Farm is bringing slicing and cherry tomatoes, edamame, leeks, red cabbage, chard, sweet bell and shishito peppers, garlic, cantaloupe, banana shallots, sweet and cooking onions, red and albino beets, spaghetti squash, and a variety of fresh-cut flowers. R&M Bischoping will have cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapeno and cayenne peppers, heirloom slicing tomatoes, kale, honey, creamed honey, beeswax lip balms, and honey soaps; Robin is debuting pumpkin spice lip balm, made with essential oils, with a coordinating pumpkin soap made with puree from the farm’s own pumpkins.
Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic red, white, and blue potatoes; onions; garlic; microgreens; ginger; bok choi; radishes; green peppers; and leeks. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic plum tomatoes, spinach, pea shoots, carrots, beets, radishes, salad mix, arugula, baby kale, romaine and red leaf lettuce, yellow and orange peppers, red and yellow potatoes, spaghetti squash, yellow onions, turnips, hardneck garlic, and green cabbage.
Stonecrop Farm is featuring certified organic fresh chicken parts including boneless breast, tenders, leg quarters, wings, frames, feet, and organs; also certified organic ginger, turkey parts, pasture raised whole ducks, and cuts of pasture raised heritage pork. Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry, saladette, cocktail, and slicing tomatoes; shishito, yellow bell, and super sweet Italian frying peppers; delicious green and red celery; carrots; red and gold beets; hot Ostergruss, sweet Korean daikon, Easter egg, and watermelon radishes; hakurei turnips; white eggplant; Tendersweet and napa cabbage; acorn and delicata winter squash; green beans; rainbow Swiss chard; baby kale; lettuce bouquets; salad mix; garlic; chrysanthemums; unique succulent planters; summer blooming perennials; larger pots of herbs; cut sunflowers; and zinnia bouquets.
Seaway Trail Honey is bringing certified Kosher honey for Rosh Hashannah, supervision by Rabbi Avi Kilimnick; raw, fresh, local, seasonal award-winning honeycomb and honey from spring to fall pure wildflower varieties from the bees by the shore of Lake Ontario; new flavorful local black walnuts in honey; and live honey bees in an observation hive for the non–profit NY Bee Wellness educational display. Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic king oyster, lion’s mane, and shiitake mushrooms.
Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic spinach, lettuce, parsnip, vine ripened heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, yellow and red onions for cooking, sweet red salad onions, German hardneck garlic, potatoes, shallots, carrots, beets, and summer squash. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing 100% grass fed and grass finished organic beef, a full array of pork cuts including three kinds of sausage from organic pasture-raised pigs fed no corn or soy, fresh organic duck from pasture raised flock fed no soy or corn, fresh raw honey, and farmstead soaps, candles, and jams made with organic ingredients from the farm.
Growing Family Farms will have certified organic heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, poblanos, jalapenos, habanadas (heatless habanero), Italian eggplant, Japanese cukes, fresh sweet onions, celery, salad greens, pasture raised chicken and duck eggs, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture-raised, heritage breed, organically-fed pork sausages: kielbasa, chorizo, Andouille, hot, and breakfast, and nitrate-free bacons: traditional, jowl, cottage, and bacon ends for soups and stews.
Bolton Farms will have Boston bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, sweet corn, turnips, heirloom tomatoes, winter squash (buttercup, acorn, spaghetti, kabocha), arugula, kale, parsley, basil, dandelion greens, tatsoi, and bok choi. Chicory Blue Gardens is bringing lots of flowers in bright fall colors, pretty hand-tied bouquets, floral arrangements for the table, and fall grasses such as millet and Sweet Annie.
K&S Bischoping will have peaches, nectarines, blackberries, pears, and apples including Honey Crisp, Fuji, Gala, Twenty Ounce and Macoun, and heirlooms Jonathan, Reinette du Canada, and Fearn’s Pippin. Tripleberry Farm is bringing super sweet fall strawberries and blackberries, pesticide-free berry jams, fresh peach jams (jams traditional and reduced sugar), and goat milk soaps.
Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic tomatoes, five varieties of potatoes, celeriac, sweet onions, garlic, delicata squash, butternut squash, acorn squash, pie pumpkins, rutabaga, honey melons (last week), kale, lettuce, sweet peppers, hot peppers, eggplant, ground cherries, apples, and quantities including bulk bags of the following: purple top turnips, watermelon radishes, daikon radishes, and kossak kohlrabi. Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have jalapeno and cayenne hot peppers, rainbow radishes, catnip, chives, cilantro, dill, flat-leaf parsley, French tarragon, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, sage, stevia, and thyme, along with frozen pizza crusts, biscuits, and soft pretzels.
Lavender Moon is bringing Bug Off, Tick Me Off, anti-itch poison ivy relief, soaps, salves, lotions, and potions; stop by for a free sample of hibiscus tea. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing old fashioned cookies, fudge, and granola bars.
JonJohn’s Bakery is featuring Holly’s Breakfast Cake for the bakery’s Mary Cariola Children’s Center fundraiser, plus fresh muffins including blueberry, mixed berry, brownie, and chocolate chip; classic carrot cake; lemon blueberry cake; lemon sour cream cake; multi-layer lemon dream cake; banana bread; chocolate ganache cakes; grandma’s breakfast cake; banana bread; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; chocolate peanut butter balls; and dark chocolate bourbon balls. Le Petit Poutine is bringing bacon and sweet corn poutine, and pumpkin bars are back.
Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, panang, veggie, and shepherds pot pies, along with some sweet pies, tarts, and galettes. Pasta Classics is bringing pumpkin ravioli; ravioli bakes including three cheese, feta & spinach, and sausage & roasted garlic; cheese gnocchi; and a wide variety of baked stuffed breads.

- JonJohn’s Bakery is hosting a fundraiser to support Holly’s Buddies 2017 in the Mary Cariola Children’s Center Annual “Walking on Sunshine” fundraising event. John and Jonathan will be offering slices of “Holly’s Cake” with proceeds going to Holly’s team. Local celebrities (including Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle) will be helping out behind the counter. Representatives from Mary Cariola Children’s Center will share info about the Center. - Community Uprooting Racism in Brighton (CURB) will join us to offer information about its efforts to promote diversity awareness, education, and inclusion through action and dialogue.
