This Week at the Market — June 29

June, you have been spectacular.  Perfect, warm days and nights; delicious, early season crops, and now, scapes!  We’re sorry to see you go, June, but thanks for lifting our spirits, and for the leaving the scapes behind as you go.

This Sunday Growing Family Farm will have scapes, plus greenhouse cukes, sweet grape and slicing tomatoes, summer squash, Russian kale, rainbow chard,  mustard greens, purple top turnips, dried shiitakes, purple onions, napa cabbage, free range eggs, cherries, pea shoots, and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice. Honeyhill Farm will have certified organic scapes, sweet carrots, beets, lettuce, parsley, baby kale, and pasture-raised chicken. Clearview Farm will also have certified organic garlic scapes, cilantro, dill, mint, Italian oregano, rhubarb, lettuce, dry pinto and red kidney beans, and free-range, organically-fed eggs (maybe even a goose egg).

Shady Lane Farm will have heirloom red lettuce, green onions, kohlrabi, garlic scapes, rainbow chard, pea shoots, Cuban mint and other herbs, and fresh-cut summer bouquets. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing pasture-raised chicken, eggs from free-ranging hens, assorted pasture-raised pork cuts, and assorted grass-fed beef cuts, all certified organic and soy-free.

Dearhaven Farm is bringing zucchini, sugar snap peas, carrots, beets, scallions, fresh herbs, and strawberries. Fisher Hill Farm will have strawberries, rhubarb, peas (shelling, snow, sugar), zucchini, summer squash, lettuce, radishes, garlic scapes, green garlic, chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices, plus potatoes, onions, and beets, from storage. Organic Matters Farm will have romaine and buttercrunch lettuces, scapes, and some peas and kale.

Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic romaine lettuce, mini jewels lettuce, lacinato kale, curly kale, baby pac choi, bok choi, Hakurei turnips, han tsai tai (a purple flowering broccolini), broccoli raab, spinach, rainbow Swiss chard, collard greens, eggs, whole chickens, and fresh-cut chicken parts. R&M Bischoping will have the last of the strawberries, shelling peas, sugar snap peas, baby kale, head lettuce, and baby zucchini and summer squash, plus dried black beans.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing kale (Scotch, Red-bore, Red Russian, and lacinato), lettuce (Cherokee, Green Towers), honey, vegetable and herb transplants, strawberries, mulberries, and red raspberries (berries in limited quantity). Buzz’s Garden will have sugar snap peas, baby carrots and beets, lettuce bouquets, cilantro, basil, parsley, kale, and Swiss chard.

Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic sweet carrots, kale, red and green leaf lettuces, garlic scapes, radishes, turnips, zucchini, red and golden beets, arugula, and frozen butternut squash. Bolton Farms will have lettuces, arugula, watercress, kale, micro greens, tatsoi, bok choi, Swiss chard, and heirloom tomatoes. Lagoner Farm will have strawberries, sweet cherries, the first raspberries, zucchini, summer squash, turnips, radish, and lettuce.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring “parts and pieces” — certified organic chicken feet for soup stock, chicken liver for pate, and organically fed, pasture-raised leaf lard for a flaky crust for strawberry/rhubarb pie. Chicory Blue Gardens will have pretty bouquets in summer colors and red sunflowers. Nordic Farm will have freshly-made strawberry jam, made with Fisher Hill spray-free strawberries, and strawberry jam bars.

Small World Food will have country multigrain bread, beet kavass, fermented garlic paste, and granola. JonJohn’s Bakery is featuring strawberry-rhubarb pie, brownie muffins, zucchini bread, and blueberry-raspberry muffins. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, pulled pork and panang pot pies, plus quiche and strawberry rhubarb, blueberry, and triple berry tarts.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing maple cotton fluff. Allens Hill Farm will have aquaponically raised cilantro, Genovese basil, Thai basil, and apple cider molasses, great for a 4th of July barbeque. Lavender Moon Herb Gardens is bringing Bugg Off spray, and is offering a soap special — have a meteor shower with soap meteors from Lavender Moon. Tripleberry Farm is bringing freshly-made regular and reduced sugar jams; flavor of the week is strawberry.

Music this week is by Flexitarians. Staff from Brighton Memorial Library will join us with information about summer programs.

ColorBrightonGreen.org will collect recycling items; check here for items they are currently able to accept and recycle. The group is also looking for more volunteers to help with these collections; please consider helping this good cause. Please consider donating to the Brighton Food Cupboard, to support their efforts on behalf of the needy in our community.

The Brighton Farmers’ Market is held every Sunday through October 26 from 9 am to 1 pm.  It is held in the Brighton High School parking lot, 1150 Winton Road S., and is sponsored by the Town of Brighton.
