Sweet Corn at the Market


This Week at the Market – July 21, 2019

Break out the butter and salt — sweet corn arrives at Brighton Farmers’ Market this week! Fisher Hill Farm is bringing the first sweet corn of the season this Sunday; Phil and Sandi will also have new potatoes, greens, the last of the strawberries, and much more. K&S Bischoping Farm is bringing black raspberries, gooseberries, and red and black currants.

Lagoner Farms will have blueberries, sweet cherries, raspberries, apricots, sugar plums, a few tart cherries, a few strawberries, and Jonagold apples. Squash Blossom Farm is bringing lettuce, escarole, frisee, kale, chard, parsley, cilantro, dill, sage, thyme, dandelion, radicchio, beet, carrot, scallion, sweet onion, torpedo onion, zucchini, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, artichoke, and squash blossom.

Andy’s Specialty Produce is bringing certified organic slicing tomatoes, salad mix, spinach, carrots, kale, arugula, radishes, pea shoots, red leaf and romaine lettuce, potatoes, fresh garlic, sweet onions, and green summer cabbage. Dearhaven Farm will have certified organic black raspberry, black currant, eggplant, celery, green cabbage, radicchio, summer squashes, eggplant, beet, carrot, parsley, basil, kale, chard, cucumber, and fresh garlic.

Growing Family Farm will have certified organic tomatoes — cherry, grape, saladette, and slicers; sweet peppers; shishitos; poblanos; jalapenos; eggplant; slicing and Asian cucumbers; fresh garlic; fresh onions; summer salad mix; romaine; summer squash; Swiss chard; kale; fresh and potted herbs; and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Chicory Blue Gardens is bringing colorful snapdragons, sunflowers, zinnias, and cosmos.

Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes; garlic scapes; fresh garlic, lettuce bouquets; mixed salad greens; rainbow Swiss chard; kale; red, purple, and French breakfast radishes; certified organic herb and vegetable transplants for summer succession planting; ginger and fig plants; succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; summer flowering perennials; hostas; lettuce bowls; herb planters; berry plants; and organic potting soil. 

Trademarks Flower Farm is bringing fresh mixed bouquets, bunches of cosmos, gladiolus, sunflowers, madame butterfly snapdragons, sweet peas, feverfew, marigolds, “zinderella” and “giant benary” zinnias, and larkspur. Tripleberry Farm will have pesticide-free blueberries and red raspberries and lots of pesticide-free berry jams.

Happy Hooves Farm will have fresh small chickens for the grill, last call for fresh pekin ducks this year, cuts of pork and sausages from pasture-raised pigs, and ground beef and steaks from 100% grass-fed and grass-finished cows; animals are raised outside on pasture with no corn, no soy, and no wheat organic feed, except the cows which only eat grass. 

Stonecrop Farm is bringing pasture-raised pork chops, kabob meat, shoulder roasts, steaks, spare ribs, ground pork, sausage, bacon, deli ham, ham steaks, hocks, organ meats, bones, trotters, and rendered lard, plus certified organic fresh whole chickens, leg quarters, frames, organ meats, and feet. Bolton Farms is bringing arugula, watercress, basil, spring mix, lettuce bouquets, butterhead bibb,  bok choi, tatsoi, curly kale, Tuscan kale, Red Russian kale, mustard greens, spicy mix, sorrel, and pea shoots.

Shannon Brook Farm is bringing certified organic, pasture-raised heritage breed pork: fresh hams, no-nitrate smoked hams, smoked ham slices, smoked hocks, ground, soup bones, butt roasts, two types of chops, six types of sausage, fresh pork belly, and three types of no-nitrate bacon; grass-fed lamb raised on organic pastures: shoulder and leg roasts, three types of chops, shanks, riblets, and lamb spare ribs; certified organic, free-range poultry: stew hens, broiler chickens – wholes and halves, chicken necks, livers, gizzards, and whole ducks; and certified organic free-range chicken eggs. 

Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic fresh Genovese and holy basil, patty pan and zucchini squash, Portuguese kale, dried dill, holy basil-tulsi tea, spearmint, truly free-range duck and hen eggs, organically-fed 100% grass-grown Angus beef in a variety of cuts (bones, steaks, roasts, burger, liver, and more), organic buckwheat, and Genesee Valley Bean certified organic dry cannellini, black, and pinto beans. Bristol Mushrooms will have fresh-picked, certified organic lion’s mane mushrooms, Brain Booster lion’s mane coffee (now with 40% more in each package), Brain Booster lion’s mane powder (in multiple sizes), and dried lion’s mane (re-hydrate in a soup or stew).

Zantopia Gardens will have lots of perennials including veronicastrum virginicum (culver’s root) “Fascination,” lobelia cardinalis “Black Truffle,” and phlox paniculata “Robert Poore,” all in early stages of bloom. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotions, teas, culinary blends, and all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have maple mustard; maple fudge; bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; pure NYS maple syrup in flavors golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat-free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body-care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Seaway Trail Honey will have prized early summer honey, harvested on Thursday, a light color honey — fresh, raw, with active enzymes; all seasonal local raw honeys from spring to fall, certified Kosher; honeycomb; cute mini bears; black walnuts, almonds, pistachios in honey; infused honeys with organic lavender, ginger, rosemary, cocoa, and cinnamon; and pure beeswax candles; stop by for a sampling, for information about bees and the different types of honey, and to see the educational display of live honey bees for the non-profit NY Bee Wellness Inc. 

RocBucha is bringing raspberry-lemon, blueberry-mint, and peach-cardamom kombucha on tap, and will have bottled flavors including ginger, strawberry-basil, pineapple-ginger, blueberry-mint, blackberry-orange, and new raspberry-lemonade; bring any bottle (RocBucha’s or other brand) to fill for $1 off. Brian’s Kitchen will have traditional, gluten-free, and vegan cookies, granola bars, and chocolate fudge.

Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, panang, and shepherds pot pies along with sugar cookies, rugelach, and introducing new Piccadilly pies. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including sausage & roasted garlic, roasted red pepper & goat cheese, and three cheese, plus plenty of strombolis.

Boy and the Baker will have ham & cheese pretzel, chocolate cherry twist, maple pecan sticky buns, assorted muffins (blueberry, hazelnut coffee cake, chocolate chip), chocolate chunk and cinnamon raisin oatmeal cookies, twice baked brioche (two ways), roasted banana bread, salted caramel popcorn, cherry almond granola, and coconut rochers. Flour City Pasta is featuring hot spicy pastas made with local hot peppers. 

JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing mom’s mac & cheese;  classic carrot cake, rainbow cake, peanut butter cup brownie, grandma’s breakfast cake,lemon blueberry cake, coconut pecan chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cranberry cookies, lemon-blueberry-blackberry-raspberry cake, Pride cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, chocolate bourbon balls, lemonade, and peanut butter balls.
