Pretty Greens at the Market

This Week at the Market – April 8, 2018

Despite winter’s unrelenting hold, there is an abundance of fresh, delicate greens at Brighton Farmers’ Market right now, including this pretty spinach from Growing Family Farms. Paul will also have certified organic mizuna, kale, pea shoots, pasture-raised chicken and duck eggs, Small World ferments and granola, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have have certified organic spinach, arugula, carrots pea shoots, sunflower shoots, beets, and yellow onions.

Bolton Farms is bringing spring mix, lettuce bouquets, butterhead bibb lettuce, spinach, escarole, bok choy, tatsoi, Red Russian kale, curly kale, Tuscan kale, broccoli raab, dandelion greens, mustard greens, and cilantro. Fisher Hill Farm will have pea and sunflower shoots, microgreens, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, onions, shallots, kohlrabi, turnips, beets, eggs, and frozen chicken, duck, and turkey.

Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh cuts of pasture raised heritage breed pork including chops, butt roasts, shoulder steaks, shoulder picnic roasts, spare ribs, tenderloin, ground pork, organ meats, and more, and will also have pasture-raised stewing hens for this soup-making weather and certified organic eggs. Fellenz Family Farm will have herb and vegetable transplants and Wild Thistle herbal products.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic, heritage breed pork sausages and chops and certified organic, free-range stew hens and pekin ducks. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotions and potions, culinary blends and teas, and is featuring lilac soap and lotion as a promise of spring.

Newbury Park Pastries is debuting new proper pork picnic pie featuring three cuts of meat from Stonecrop Farm; Kate will have chicken, veggie, shepherds and panang pot pies plus cut out cookies and a few other sweets. Flour City Pasta is bringing lots of pastas made with locally sourced ingredients including spinach, beets, kale, heirloom tomatoes, hot peppers, and whole wheat and ancient grains.

Brian’s Kitchen will have cookies, granola bars, and chocolate fudge. Laughing Gull Chocolates will have truffles (salted caramel, raspberry, coffee, mimosa, lavender honey, and vanilla); chocolate covered ginger, mango, and bananas; and bark.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion and lip balm.
