This Week at the Market — December 13, 2015
You’ll find lots of holiday spirit this week at Brighton Farmers’ Market. Farmers and vendors will have plenty of good things for holiday feasts, treats, and gifts. Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic holiday wreaths, mesclun greens, baby bok choi, arugula, Hakurei turnips, carrots, potatoes, garlic, pie pumpkins, winter squash, whole chickens, chicken pieces, and eggs. Fellenz Family Farm will have certified organic eggs (quantity discounts for holiday baking), spinach, lettuce, kale, chard, sorrel, apples, potatoes (including Adirondack blue), shallots, garlic, leeks, rutabaga, beets, daikon radish, watermelon radish, and kohlrabi; Jenny will have her Wild Thistle herbal products (salves, lip balm, muscle rub, and rose oil).
Fisher Hill Farm is bringing bright lights chard, spring mix, lettuce, and Asian greens from the high tunnel, kohlrabi, hakurei turnips, beets, carrots, parsnips, cabbage, rutabaga, grapes, potatoes, onions, garlic, winter squash, sweet potatoes, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, eggs, frozen chicken, and turkey, and Red Jacket juices and cider; Phil will take orders for fresh turkey for delivery just before Christmas (both conventionally and organically fed); supply is limited.
K&S Bischoping will have lots of apples including Jonagold, Gold Delicious, and Cortland, and a good assortment of heirlooms. Buzz’s Garden is bringing baby Swiss chard, spicy salad mix, lettuce baskets, red Russian kale, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, napa cabbage, green cabbage, purple cabbage, nero de tondo storage radishes, and daikon radishes.
Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic sweet potatoes, carrots, red and green leaf lettuce, spinach, arugula, turnips, broccoli greens, collard greens, napa cabbage, butternut squash, green cabbage, leeks, purple cabbage, daikon radishes, red potatoes, green kale, and red beets. Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic sunchokes; pie pumpkins; winter squash (acorn, carnival, butternut, and honeynut butternut); leeks; baby bok choi; arugula; Easter egg, watermelon, and daikon radishes; parsley; cilantro; dried dill, lemon basil, Genovese basil, and Italian oregano; Callan Farms black beans; and Italy Hill popcorn.
Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic, pasture-raised pork shoulder roasts and bacon ends, great for adding flavor to beans, greens, and soups. Lavender Moon is bringing all natural wreaths, Victorian kissing balls, and lots of herbal products, perfect for gift giving. Growing Family Farms will have mesclun, Asian greens, romaine, Swiss chard, garlic, pea shoots, sweet potatoes, free range eggs, winter squash (butternut, acorn, and spaghetti), Small World ferments and granola, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice.
Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have three grades of maple syrup in plastic and glass, Grade A Amber in fancy holiday glass for gift giving, maple cream spread, granulated maple sugar, maple mustard, maple garlic rub, soft and hard maple sugar shapes, maple skin care products, and maple cotton candy. Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, veggie, panang, and shepherds pot pies, plus frosted sugar cookies.
JonJohn’s Bakery will have mozzarella stuffed meatballs, mac & cheese and Brussels sprouts, red velvet cake, blueberry lemon cake, blueberry muffins, chocolate brownie muffins, German chocolate cake, apple pecan breakfast cake, coconut almond joy balls, sugar cookies, oatmeal cranberry cookies, bourbon bread pudding, bourbon balls, chocolate chip cookies, and carrot cake.
Pasta Classics is bringing several ravioli flavors including bacon with sautéed onions and cheddar, plus fresh garlic and pepper pasta. Rise and Shine Bread will have English muffin bread, asiago ciabatta, rosemary focaccia, honey wheat, stout beer bread, raisin, and apple fritter sweet bread.
Nordic Farm is bringing many fresh jams including fruited jams, marmalades, and hot pepper favorites, plus chunky applesauce, pickles, and granola. Triplebery Farm is featuring frozen blueberries, perfect for holiday pies, smoothies, pancakes, or just eating; Kim will also have pesticide-free jams and goat milk soaps, nice for guest bathrooms and stocking stuffers.

We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.

Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market is held Sundays,1 to 4 pm, through May 15, 2016 in Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road, with a second entrance to the building just off S.
