This Week at the Market — September 6, 2015

We would like to point out that while, yes, September is here and yes, school has started, it is still summer. If you need any proof besides the blazing temperatures, check out the splendid summer abundance at the Brighton Farmers’ Market this week. Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic beans, spinach, beets, parsley, garlic, onions, leeks, carrots, hot peppers, sweet red and green peppers, eggplant, potatoes, red raspberries, chard, heirloom tomatoes, cherry and salad tomatoes, basil, cilantro, and lemongrass. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic watermelons, carrots, green cabbage, leeks, spinach, arugula, green peppers, green beans, red potatoes, sweet onions, green kale, zucchini, garlic, red beets, garlic scapes, red radishes, Hakurei turnips, cherry tomatoes, and sauerkraut.

Shady Lane Farm is bringing tomatoes, the first cantaloupes, red and gold potatoes, Beer Friend edamame, sweet corn, kohlrabi, Swiss chard, green bell peppers, red beets, garlic, fresh-cut mint, purple basil, parsley, and colorful flower bouquets, large and small. Buzz’s Garden will have basil, Swiss chard, beets, carrots, cantaloupe, heirloom and cherry tomatoes, radishes, kale, salad mix, onions, and garlic.

Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, lettuce bouquets, orange and red sweet peppers, baby rainbow Swiss chard, mixed baby kale, leeks, tricolor beans, garlic for eating and seed stock, cut sunflowers and flower bouquets, certified organic herb and vegetable plants, lettuce bowls, herb planters, ornamental kale and cabbage, many summer blooming perennials, and a large supply of hardy chrysanthemums just starting to pop with color.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic mixed tomatoes (bulk available), cherry tomatoes, Swiss chard, kale, salad mix, spinach, eggplant, summer squash (final week), apples (Sansa, Akane, Honeycrisp), peaches, pears, eggs, sweet peppers, hot peppers, beets, potatoes, onions, leeks, tomatillos, ground cherries, and herbs; this is the last week for large bulk orders of Roma tomatoes (email [email protected] to order). Bolton Farms will have lettuces, kale, tatsoi, parsley, basil, escarole, watercress, micro greens, pea shoots, sweet corn, cauliflower, beets, green and yellow squash, and tomatoes.

K&S Bischoping will have Flamin’ Fury peaches and Fantasia nectarines, raspberries, blueberries, and apples — Ginger Gold, William’s Pride, Paulared, Zestar!, and heirlooms including Wealthy and Chenango Strawberry. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing organic grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork, organic soy-free eggs from free-ranging hens, stewing hens, wild honey, sweet corn, rhubarb, and freshly-dug horseradish root. Buzz’s Garden is bringing basil, Swiss chard, beets, carrots, cantaloupe, heirloom and cherry tomatoes, radishes, kale, salad mix, onions, and garlic.

R&M Bischoping will have cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, hot peppers, kale, Swiss chard, heirloom slicing tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, sunflowers, honey, and zinnia bouquets. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free blackberries and raspberries, freshly-made jams, and goat milk soaps. Growing Family Farm will have heirloom tomatoes; red, orange, and green bell peppers; Carolina Reaper hot peppers; rainbow chard, kale, Napa cabbage; Italian dandelion, French filet beans; red noodle beans; cured Cabernet and Sierra Blanca sweet onions; German hard neck garlic; yellow summer squash; baby beets; French breakfast radishes; free-range eggs; and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice.

Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic sweet Sarah’s Choice and Halona cantaloupe, leeks, Beatrice and Asian Orient Charm eggplant, sweet green and poblano peppers, slicing and cherry tomatoes, young green and golden zucchini, yellow Sunburst and crookneck summer squash, Genovese and lemon basil, certified organic and organically-fed free-range eggs, Gigante d’Italia flat parsley, thyme, sage, oregano, lemon mint, valerian root, and black beans. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic, pasture-rasied pork tenderloins and baby back ribs.

Chicory Blue Gardens will have bouquets with fall colors and grasses, dahlias, and sunflowers. First Light Farm is featuring marinated feta and cheddar curds. Seaway Trail Honey is bringing fresh, local, natural late summer honey harvested Saturday, fresh honeycomb, and mini-bear sampler gift packs — all certified kosher for Rosh Hashanah; the NY Bee Wellness display will have live honey bees.

Rise and Shine Bread is bringing English Muffin bread, asiago ciabatta, rosemary focaccia, honey wheat, wheat, rye, pumpernickel, raisin, sweet breads, and brownies. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing maple cream spread, maple mustard, maple garlic pepper rub for grilling, granulated maple sugar, and three grades of maple syrup. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken tarragon, chicken, panang, shepherds, pulled pork, and veggie pot pies, plus fruit pies made with local fruit.

Lavender Moon will have herbal ice tea, fair trade hot cocoa blends, Bug Off and Tick Me Off repellents. Eat Me Ice Cream is featuring I Dream of Italy ice cream (Italian olive oil and basil). Smugtown Mushrooms will have fresh oyster mushrooms, shiitake, and lion’s mane, kombucha starter kits, and mushroom cultivation supplies. Flour City Pasta will have pumpkin pappardelle and pumpkin chipotle fettuccine. Brian’s Kitchen will offer regular, gluten free, sugar free, and vegan cookies.

Small World Food is bringing country multigrain bread, sourdough rye, pain au levain, mild and spicy Napa kimchi, crostini, maple cashew granola, strawberry knots, honey coconut knots, apple cider vinegar, cucumber pickles, miso, and purple sauerkraut. Biscotti for Everybotti will have gluten free anise biscotti made with Iroquois corn, coconut chocolate chip, and vegan cinnamon biscotti.
