Green Energy Fair

This Sunday the Green Energy Fair, sponsored by ColorBrightonGreen.org, will be held at the Brighton Farmers’ Market.  A wide variety of exhibitors will offer green products and services and displays on ways to save energy and resources. There will be a silent auction of really cool items and activities for kids. Details can be found here.

From the Vendors

This week Honeyhill Farm will have mixed baskets of lettuce, sugar snap peas, bouquets of a tasty new variety of parsley, bunches of red and gold beets, and fresh, pasture raised chickens, all certified organic. Fellenz Family Farm, also certified organic, is bringing asparagus, arugula, mizuna, komatsuna, purple komatsuna, red rain, Swiss chard, kale, rhubarb, spinach, sorrel, honey, herbs, and vegetable transplants. Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have organic no-soy chicken halves, perfect for grilling, broiling, or frying, frozen chickens in all sizes, no-soy organic chicken eggs and pork cuts, and certified organic 100% grass-fed and finished beef cuts.

Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes; herb, vegetable and berry transplants; bedding plants; hanging baskets; lettuce bowls; and wheatgrass. Shady Lane Farm joins us with red and green heirloom lettuces, scallions, rhubarb, fresh-cut herbs (thyme, chives, and Greek oregano; and purple-themed spring flower bouquets.

Growing Family Farms will have purple top turnips, Russian kale, rainbow Swiss chard, collard greens, mustard greens, soil grown greenhouse cucumbers, grape tomatoes, some slicing tomatoes, purple onions, green garlic, free-range eggs, and tart cherry juice. R&M Biscghoping returns to the market with baby kale and chard, red and green lettuce, fresh herbs (mint, oregano, and chives), and the first Earliglow and Cabot no-spray strawberries.

Shannon Brook Farm will have certified organic pasture-raised broiler chickens in a wide range of sizes and certified organic duck eggs; tips on cooking with them can be found hereBuzz’s Garden will have lettuce bouquets, romaine, escarole, radishes, kohlrabi, and a spring braising/salad mix. Lagoner Farms will have asparagus, rhubarb, arugula, rappi, choi, kale, lettuce, apples, and radishes.

Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic fresh whole chickens, boneless breasts, tenders, thigh quarters, wings, livers, and necks, organic eggs, kale, spinach, rainbow chard, baby pac choi, radishes, and mustard greens. Ann’s Purple Produce will have unusual perennials, annuals, herb, pansies, the first of the showy caladiums, purple asparagus, cut chives with edible blossoms, cut oregano, and some lovely lupine bouquets.

Dearhaven Farm is bringing romaine lettuce, many fresh herbs, tender scallions, baby greens, and spinach. Allens Hill Farm is bringing free-range eggs and aquaponically grown basil (pesto, thai, and lemon basil) and cilantro; John suggests his nationally acclaimed 8 Grain Pancake Mix for Father’s Day breakfast next week. Bolton Farms will have lettuces (Boston bibb, bouquets, and spring mix), kale, arugula, watercress, tatsoi, Swiss chard, micro greens, basil, cilantro, parsley, spinach, and heirloom tomatoes.

Nordic Farm will have many jams and jellies, dill pickles and beet pickles, and granola. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is featuring maple syrup packaged in nostalgic tins — great Father’s Day gifts. Lavender Moon will have a fresh supply of Bug Off spray — smells and works great — plus a variety of herbal products, including soaps, lotions, and culinary treats, and some fresh cut peonies.

JonJohn’s Bakery will have iced strawberry lemonade with fresh mint, jumbo muffins, lemon-blueberry pound cake, grandma’s breakfast cake and chocolate brownie surprise. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, beef stew, veggie, and panang pot pies as well as raspberry and strawberry rhubarb tarts. Flour City Pasta is featuring Thai chili mafaldine — a curly edged noodle or dragon’s tongue, spicy with some cayenne and five spice. Brian’s Kitchen is offering a newly improved oatmeal raisin cookie.

Lettuce B. Frank will offer Farmer’s Plates and breakfast sandwiches — Irish bacon, beef, carrot, or beet sliders. Tripleberry Farm will have fresh batches of pesticide-free berry jams and goat milk soaps, including unscented oatmeal and honey for sensitive skin.  Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic salad mix, red and green leaf lettuce, spinach, arugula, multicolored chard, radishes, Hakurei turnips, garlic powder, and frozen butternut squash.

Keith Myers of Flour City Bread brings his wood-fired pizza oven back to the Market.  Fruition Seeds will have organic seeds and garden plants.  Special guest vendor this week is Friends of Ganondagan, offering Iroquois white corn products (hulled white corn, roasted corn flour and white corn flour), grown in Victor using the same methods as their ancestors, the Haudenosaunee, did.

We’realways delightedto have Watkins & the Rapiers join us in the music tent.  Alex’s Lemonade Stand will sell lemonade to raise money for research at the University of Rochester to fight childhood cancer. Free RTS transit cards for ROC Transit Day will be available.  Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension will answer gardening questions. Brighton Food Cupboard will accept donations of food and funds to help the needy in our community.
