Farmers are planting and green things are growing on the farms in our area. Preparations are well underway for the new season. The Brighton Farmers’ Market opens for the summer on May 26, and the South Wedge Farmers’ Market opens on June 6. In the meantime, farmers and vendors are bringing great local food to the the Long Season Farmers’ Market. Phillip Munson of Fisher Hill Farm will have pots of fresh green herbs to cheer your windowsill or, soon, to take root in the garden. Phil and Sandi will also have beets, cabbage, carrots, parsnips, celeriac, rutabaga, potatoes, onions, shallots, and garlic. Bolton Farms will have a nice selection of salad and cooking greens, butterhead lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, arugula, watercress, pea shoots, micro greens, spinach, tatsoi, bok choi, Red Russian kale, rainbow Swiss chard, basil, cilantro, and parsley.
Clearview Farm is bringing free-range, organically-fed, brilliant-yoked eggs, five kinds of dry beans, daikon and Black Spanish radishes, dried Hungarian wax and jalapeno peppers, and dried and fresh herbs. Bloomfield Honey Farm will offer free tastes of their cinnamon creamed honey — delicious on your bread, oatmeal, or finger. Shannon Brook Farm will be back with freshly-processed broiler chickens in a variety of sizes; chicken feet for soup stock; duck, chicken, and guinea eggs; and a variety of cuts of organically-fed pork — hams, center cut pork chops, butt roasts, shoulder roasts, hocks, and fresh bacon. The pork was raised on pasture and grain from Lakeview Organic Grains and processed in a USDA inspected meat plant.
Lakestone Family Farm will have lots of eggs. Nordic Farm Jams will have freshly-made pickles and pickled beets, applesauce, jams, eggs, and granola. Newbury Park Pastries is bringing a variety of their pot pies — shepherds’ pie, panang vegetable, chicken, and vegetable. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have first run light amber maple syrup in their new 12-ounce traditional glass jug and some maple cotton fluff. Blue Moon Bend Farm is bringing its first chevre of the year. Allens Hill Farm will have its assortment of baking mixes, dukkah, and of course apple cider molasses. There will also be baked goods, fresh and dried pasta, milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, and more.

John Wiesenthal will perform with his guitar. The Brighton Food Cupboard will accept donations.
