If you’re chilled from this cold, cold week, just the word “roast” should cheer you, and there will be plenty to roast at this Sunday’s Long Season Winter Farmers’ Market. Lily from Fisher Hill Farm recommends her brussels sprouts, roasted in olive oil and drizzled with a little balsamic vinegar. She’ll also have beets, carrots, parsnips, celeriac, rutabaga, potatoes, winter squash, onions (sweet and cooking), shallots, garlic, cabbage, frozen corn and strawberries, frozen half turkeys and half chickens (delicious roasted for an easy dinner), and Asian greens from the high tunnel. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce is bringing freshly-dug carrots, kale, beets, and green cabbage. Bolton Farms will have lots of fresh greens — Bibb lettuce, spring mix, lettuce bouquets, parsley, cilantro, basil, tatsoi, watercress, and pea shoots.
Clearview Farm will have free-range, organically-fed eggs, shallot-like onions, dried herbs, dried hot peppers, winter squash, turnips, bets, parsnips, daikon radish, black Spanish radishes, fennel, celeriac, and Jerusalem artichokes (sunchokes). Fingerlakes Farms will join us with milk, cream, cheeses, yogurt, juices, and for roasting — beef, pork, and rabbit. Tripleberry Farm will have frozen blueberries from the summer harvest, berry jams, blueberry double chocolate brownies, lemon bars, and goats’ milk soaps, including fragrance-free oatmeal and honey for sensitive skin. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing the full range of maple products, including fresh batches of soft-molded and granulated sugars, syrups (light, medium, and extra dark), and gourmet maple cream spread (delicious as a sticky bun topping). Small World Bakery will have cinnamon raisin bread. Le Petit Poutine returns!
