Winter Market Opens!
This Week at the Market – November 6, 2016
The Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market opens this Sunday! Turn back your clocks and join us from 1 to 4 pm for plenty of delicious locally grown and produced food. The Market will be held Sundays through May 7, 2017, at Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road. There’s a second entrance to the building just off S. Winton, between Westfall and 590.
This week Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic leeks, runder radishes, celeriac, kohlrabi, carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, rutabaga, and kale, plus Wild Thistle herbal products and honey. Growing Family Farms will have certified organic fall mesclun, spinach, pea shoots, arugula, rainbow chard, winter squash (acorn, delicata, crooknecks), Nantucket pie pumpkins, heirloom tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, rattlesnake and blue coco pole beans, celery, endive, escarole, dandelion, chicory, sweet peppers, parsley, pasture raised chicken, and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice.
Bolton Farms is bringing lettuce bouquets, bibb lettuce, spring mix, arugula, bok choi, red Russian kale, curly kale, and a selection of winter squash. K&S Bischoping will have quince and many varieties of apples including Snapdragon, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Gala, Macoun, Empire, Jonagold, Crispin, and heirlooms including Golden Russet.
Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic spinach, carrots, arugula, salad turnips, French breakfast radishes, butternut squash, garlic, Swiss chard, baby lettuce mix, lettuce baskets, and pearl onions. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic carrots, beets, broccoli, red and green leaf lettuce, garlic, sweet potatoes, spinach, green and purple cabbage, arugula, onions, potatoes, leeks, Asian greens, radishes, kale, sweet peppers, zucchini, pie pumpkins, and butternut squash.
Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs is bringing freshly cut flat leaf and curly parsley, cilantro, chives, sage, thyme, peppermint, chamomile, oregano, rosemary, French tarragon, hot peppers, raw honey, rainbow radishes, rainbow chard, teas, and spices. Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have certified organic and 100% grass fed and grass finished beef in cold weather friendly roasts, stew, meaty soup bones, ground and assorted steaks, also some certified organic pasture raised whole frozen chickens from the flock of Freedom Ranger chickens fed no soy or corn; Della can take a few more reservations for organic holiday turkeys raised on pasture and fed no soy or corn.
Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture-raised, organically-fed pekin ducks and grass fed lamb — ground lamb, lamb shoulder, rib chops, loin chops, and soup bones — raised on certified organic pastures. Stonecrop Farm is bringing certified organic fresh ginger, eggs, fresh whole chicken and chicken parts, and pasture raised duck and pork; Greg will take orders for organic pastured Thanksgiving turkeys.
Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have mure maple syrup in fancy holiday glass, just bottled, for the gift giving season, pure syrup (golden, amber, and dark), maple cream spread, granulated maple sugar, maple garlic rub, maple coffee, maple tea, wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats, soft and hard sugar shapes, and body care products – maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm. Tripleberry Farm is bringing freshly made pesticide free jams, and 21 scents of moisturizing goat milk soaps to help with dry winter skin.
JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing turkey dinner with baked macaroni and cheese, roasted vegetables, and corn bread; carrot cake; peanut butter balls; Oreo brownie cheesecake, pumpkin crunch pie; and chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies. Pasta Classics will have handmade ravioli in pumpkin, feta and spinach, and crab and shrimp flavors, and fresh cut pasta and cheese gnocchi.
Farmhouse Table is bringing butternut squash soup (vegan) with squash from Fisher Hill Farm, roasted turkey posole soup with turkey from Fisher Hill Farm, German potato salad with house cured and smoked bacon, quinoa salad with broccoli from Lagoner Farms, local vegetable giardiniera, fresh kimchi, roasted garlic hummus, fresh sweet breads, tarts, and cookies. Flour City Pasta will have fall flavors including pumpkin pappardelle and autumn orzo.
Le Petit Poutine is featuring bacon cheeseburger poutine — French fries, cheese curds, ground beef, bacon, gravy, lettuce, tomato and cheese sauce, plus apple cider soda, ginger soda, s’more bites, and pumpkin bars. Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, veggie, panang, shepherds, and turkey dinner pot pies plus seasonal sweet pies. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, lotions, salves, and culinary treats such as flavored hot cocoa mixes.

EBT/SNAP Bonus Program/Fresh Connect Checks
We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. Purchase at least $10 in tokens with an EBT card, and receive $5 in bonus tokens to be used at the market to purchase EBT eligible foods. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.
