Special Events
It’s going to be a big day at the Market this week, June 5, with two special events:
- ColorBrightonGreen.org’s annual Eco-Fair will be held, with exhibitors offering information and demonstrations of green technologies and products.
- There will be a special information booth at the Market about the Brighton Winter Farmers’ Market project to renovate Town-owned barns on Westfall Road. Architects and Town officials will join us to provide information and project plans and drawings, and will welcome input from the community.
This Week at the Market — June 5, 2016
Fisher Hill Farm is bringing asparagus, spring mix lettuce, radishes, green garlic, salad turnips, cabbage, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onions, rutabaga, fresh chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Clearview Farm will have certified organic rhubarb, “super scallions,” eggs, Callan Farm dry black beans, Italy Hill popcorn, buckwheat, fresh and dried herbs, (sage, thyme, Italian oregano, Genovese basil, lemon basil, spearmint, and lemon mint), and 100% grass-fed Angus beef, ground and other cuts.
Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic tender kale, spinach, beet greens, asparagus, chard, baby lettuce salad mix, endive, large head romaine and bibb lettuce, fennel, scallions, celery, and herbs–cilantro, dill, arugula, parsley, and tarragon. Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry tomatoes, green garlic, D’avignon and Easter Egg radishes, lettuce bouquets, and certified organic herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kale, chards, beets, onions, leeks, cole crops, cucumbers, and squashes, and flowering annuals, perennials, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, patio tomato planters, and wheatgrass.
Stonecrop Farm is bringing pastured duck, pastured chicken, and chicken feet. Bolton Farms will have lettuces, arugula, watercress, escarole, Swiss chard, Tuscan kale, curly kale, bok choy, parsley, and basil. Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have certified organic 100% grass fed and finished beef in steak cuts and ground, certified organic pasture raised and soy-free whole fresh chickens, organs and feet, rhubarb goodies and jams, and raw honey.
Smugtown Mushrooms is bringing fresh shiitake mushrooms, kombucha starters, grow kits, and extracts. K&S Bischoping will have an assortment of crunchy and juicy apples. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring organically-fed pork shoulder roasts and recommends this recipe. Organic Matters Farm joins us with asparagus.
Buzz’s Garden is bringing Swiss chard, spinach, French breakfast radishes, cherry and saladette tomatoes, basil, pickling cucumbers, zucchini, huge lettuce baskets, baby cut lettuce mix, kale, and green garlic. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic red and green leaf lettuce, arugula, kale, radishes, spinach, rainbow chard, salad mix, Asian greens mix, and turnips.
Growing Family Farm is bringing romaine and red bibb head lettuce, sunnies, slicing and Japanese cukes, Swiss chard, potted heirloom tomatoes and herbs, pastured free-range eggs, and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice. Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have fresh parsley, cilantro, dill, peppermint, sage, and rainbow chard; dried chives and garlic leaf; and spearmint, peppermint, and red clover leaf tea.
Lakestone Family Farm is bringing Swiss chard, kale, French breakfast radishes, red radishes, Hakurei turnips, garlic scapes, green garlic, spinach, eggs, and whole and cut pieces of certified organic chicken. Seaway Trail Honey will have pure, raw, specialty seasonal wildflower honeys and honeycomb, mini-bears, larger containers, some apple blossom honey, and will offer the non-profit, NY Bee Wellness educational display with live honey bees.
JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing baked mac & cheese, carrot cake, Oreo cookie brownie cheesecake, strawberry rhubarb pie, apple pie, cheesecakes, blueberry muffins, raspberry blueberry muffins, chocolate chip muffins, double layer peanut butter chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, and cranberry oatmeal cookies. Biscotti for Everybotti will have oatmeal raisin and ginger biscotti, both made with organic wheat from NYS, and gluten-free coconut and gluten-free ginger.
Farmhouse Table is bringing Asian slaw (cabbage and carrots from Fisher Hill Farm), quinoa salad (Lagoner Farms asparagus, Smugtown mushrooms, and Fisher Hill carrots), German potato salad, lemon garlic hummus, olive tapenade, candied pecans, tarts and pies, including rhubarb from Lagoner Farms, and sweet breads. Pasta Classics will have ravioli including butternut squash, Swiss and asparagus, and roasted red pepper and goat cheese; fresh pasta flavors are lemon pepper and spinach basil.
Brian’s Kitchen will have chocolate fudge and simply natural cookies. Rise and Shine Bread is bringing English muffin bread, asiago ciabatta, rosemary focaccia, honey wheat, raisin, beer bread, and sweet breads. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have golden, amber, and dark syrup; maple cream spread; maple garlic rub; granulated maple sugar, maple mustard; all natural maple dog biscuits; and body care products–maple vanilla soap, lotion, scrub,and lip balm.
Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, BBQ beef, panang, veggie, pulled lpork, and shepherds pot pies. Flour City Pasta is bringing cabernet sauvignon gnocchetti, made with upcycled local Finger Lakes wine dried pomace and stone ground into wine flour; Jon will offer a recipe for cold summer salad with green beans and bacon.
Nordic Farms is bringing jams–rhubarb, strawberry rhubarb, blueberry rhubarb, raspberry rhubarb, sour cherry, bourbon cherry, peach, and Texas peach; three kinds of granola; zucchini relish and Victory Relish (like a sweet chili sauce); and bread & butter zukes and cukes. Lavender Moon will have BugOff and Tick Me Off all natural repellents plus other herbal products.
Happy Earth Tea is bringing iced Bombay Chair, iced Holy Ginger and a range of hard-to-find organic artisan teas. Neno’s Gourmet Mexican food truck is featuring its Mexican sandwich, pambazo, an authentic traditional Mexican breakfast dish from Veracruz that includes chorizo with hash potato, queso fresco, and fried egg on white toast with guajillo mayo; Neno’s will also offer its regular menu. Marty’s Meats food truck is offering breakfast sandwiches–frisket, Carolina, pastrami with egg and cheese, brisket with egg and cheese, and asparagus with eggs and cheese; eggs are from Fisher Hill Farm, with local pork.

EBT/SNAP Bonus Program/Fresh Connect Checks
We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. Purchase at least $10 in tokens with an EBT card, and receive $5 in bonus tokens to be used at the market to purchase EBT eligible foods. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.
