The outdoor season of the Brighton Farmers’ Market extends through November 19. The indoor winter Market opens the following week, November 26, in Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road, and will be held Sunday afternoons, 1-4 pm. The goodness continues all year!

This Week at the Market – October 22, 2017

It’s pumpkin season, and it’s the perfect week to pick up a Halloween pumpkin at Brighton Farmers’ Market, including pumpkins of all sizes at Fisher Hill Farm’s booth. Fellenz Family Farm will have unusual pumpkins, such as tasty Long Island Cheese pumpkin, a pretty champagne-colored variety. Make your own pumpkin-spice anything!

Pumpkins are actually a type of winter squash, and Clearview Farm is bringing several certified organic squash varieties: green acorn, carnival, delicata, and kabocha, as well as tomatillos, arugula, golden turnips, red shiso, dry black beans, free-range eggs, and an assortment of 100% grass-grown Black Angus beef cuts, dry aged for one month. Bolton Farms will also have winter squash, plus basil, Boston lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, arugula, red Russian kale, curly kale, cauliflower, dandelion greens, escarole, and spicy mix.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring organically-seasoned pork sausages: chorizo, Andouille, breakfast, hot Italian, and kielbasa, as well as ground pork for making your own sausage flavors, plus grass-fed lamb raised on certified organic pastures — shoulder roasts, ground leg of lamb, riblets, meaty soup bones, and chops (leg, loin, and rib). Shady Lane Farm is bringing assorted sweet peppers, jalapenos, shishitos, leeks, onions, Beauregard and Japanese sweet potatoes, edamame, white beets, red and banana shallots, ground cherries, butternut and delicata squash, fresh-cut herbs (parsley, cilantro, sage, fennel), decorative sorghum, and late-season flowers.

K&S Bischoping will have Bosc pears, quince, and lots of apples — Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Gold Delicious, Empire, Macoun, Cortland, Crispin, Northern Spy, Spigold, Gala, and a large variety of heirloom apples — Stayman Winesap, Esopus Spitzenberg, White Pearman, Snow, Ashmead’s Kernel, Roxbury Russet, Seek-No-Further, Caville Blanc, and Black Gilliflower. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing 100% grass-fed and grass-finished organic beef, pork from organic pasture-raised pigs fed no corn or soy, frozen organic duck from the pasture-raised flock fed no soy or corn, organic eggs from free-ranging hens, giant stewing hens, fresh raw honey, and farmstead soaps and candles made with organic ingredients from the farm; Della is taking turkey orders.

Growing Family Farms will have organic sweet peppers, poblanos, cubanelles, eggplant, celery, rainabow chard, carrots, kale, escarole, endive, pea shoots, sweet onions, potatoes, winter squash, pasture-raised chicken and duck eggs, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Chicory Blue Gardens will have dahlias, grasses, basil, zinnias, dark burgundy lilies, statice, and strawflowers. Bristol Mushrooms will have fresh-picked organic shiitake and lion’s mane mushrooms.

Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry, saladette, cocktail, and slicing tomatoes; shishito, yellow bell, and super sweet Italian frying peppers; green and red celery; carrots; red and gold beets; hot Ostergruss, sweet Korean daikon, Easter Egg, and black Spanish radishes; hakurei turnips; white eggplant, Tendersweet and napa cabbage; acorn and delicata winter squash; garlic; broccoli; bok choi; rainbow Swiss chard; mizuna mix, baby kale; lettuce bouquets; salad mix; super greens mix; chrysanthemums; unique succulent planters; summer blooming perennials, larger pots of herbs; and zinnia bouquets.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; maple cream spread; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat-free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products: maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free berry jams along with fresh peach, traditional and reduced sugar, plus goat milk soaps with some new scents.

Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, shepherds, panang, pulled pork, veggie, and turkey dinner pot pies along with some sweet seasonal pies and tarts. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing chocolate fudge, granola bars, and cookies, all dairy free, some gluten free, and vegan.

Pasta Classics is bringing ravioli flavors including feta & spinach, artichoke & provolone, and butternut squash, plus three cheese ravioli bakes and a variety of baked stuffed breads. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotion, and culinary blends; try Joe’s hibiscus tea.

Eat Me Ice Cream is featuring curry cashew and crystallized ginger ice cream bars dipped in chocolate. Le Petit Poutine is bringing sausage gravy poutine, rubbish poutine (garbage-style plate), and concord grape soda.

JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing cinnabun apple cobbler with fresh apples from Noto Farms, triple decker beyond chocolate cake with rich ganache, pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting,  mixed berry and brownie muffins, chocolate chip muffins, classic carrot cake, lemon blueberry cake, grandma’s breakfast cake, chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies, chocolate peanut butter balls, dark chocolate bourbon balls, and special cupcakes in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
