Public Safety Day – September 25, 2016

This Sunday is Public Safety Day at Brighton Farmers’ Market. The Brighton Fire Department will join us, bringing their ladder truck, fire engine, and rescue truck. They will offer information on how we can keep our families safe. Kids are especially welcome.

This Week at the Market

This week Fellenz Family Farm is bringing mild and spicy micro green mixes, tomatoes, potatoes, radishes (watermelon, daikon, and runder), leeks, fresh and tried herbs, green Roma tomatoes, and Wild Thistle herbal products (salves, balms, etc.). Dearhaven Farm will have spinach, Hakurei turnips, chard, baby lettuce, head romaine lettuce, fennel, green cabbage, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, beets, carrots, zucchini, leeks, onions, garlic, and herbs — basil, thyme, sage, rosemary, parsley, and lemongrass, all certified organic.

Bolton Farms will have sweet corn, tomatoes, lettuce, bok choi, winter squash, spicy mix, arugula, and basil. Buzz’s Garden is bringing beets, carrots, Swiss chard, lettuce baskets, baby lettuce mix, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, salad turnips, radishes, celery, garlic, red noodle beans, green peppers, and jalapenos.

K&S Bischoping will have red raspberries and lots of apples — Honey Crisp, Daybreak Fuji, Ginger Gold, Gala, and McIntosh, plus a good assortment of heirlooms including Jonathan, Ozark Gold, Karmijn de Sonnaville, Orleans Reinette, and Pomme Gris. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce is bringing certified organic carrots, beets, spinach, lettuce, green beans, yellow onions, red potatoes, garlic, arugula, green cabbage, squash (spaghetti, butternut, delicata, and acorn), turnips, radishes, leeks, kale, and collard greens.

Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have freshly cut flat leaf and curly parsley, cilantro, dill, chives, sage, thyme, peppermint, spearmint, chamomile, oregano, rosemary, French tarragon, hot peppers, raw honey, heirloom tomatoes, teas, and spices. R&M Bischoping is bringing honey, green beans, kale, cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, watermelon, dried beans, heirloom slicing tomatoes, sunflower bouquets, beeswax lotions bars and lip balms, honey soaps, and lots of zucchini, including some larger ones for breads, muffins, zucchini lasagne and zoodles — zucchini noodles.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture raised pekin duck and broiler chickens. Growing Family Farms is bringing certified organic heirloom tomatoes (Prudens, Berkeley, zebras), bulk deals on slicing and sauce tomatoes, red and yellow bell peppers, eggplant, summer squash, zucchini, winter squash (delicata, sweet dumpling, Dutch crookneck, and pink banana), New England pie pumpkins, dragon’s tongue beans, red scallions, lettuce mix, Sierra Blanca onions, Rampicante and Inchelium red garlic braids, sugar baby melons, pasture raised chicken, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice.

Happy Hooves Organic Farm will have certified organic grass fed and grass finished ground beef and patties, organic pasture raised and fed no-soy and no-corn chickens in whole, half, and cuts, plus organs and feet, and raw wildflower honey. Smugtown Mushrooms is bringing blue, gold, and pink oyster mushrooms; shiitakes, a limited amount of lion’s mane, mushroom cultivation kits, kombucha starters, medicinal mushroom extracts, and soaps.

Chicory Blue Gardens will have bright and beautiful bouquets in fall colors, sunflowers, and Sweet Annie. Stonecrop Farm is bringing certified organic fresh whole chickens, chicken parts, and eggs, as well as pasture raised duck and pork.

Bristol Mushrooms will have three varieties of certified organic, fresh picked mushrooms — shiitake, lion’s mane, and king oyster. Flowerwell is bringing grab and go bouquets with scented geraniums, eucalyptus, zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers, and cosmos, plus table arrangements packed with dahlias.

Seaway Trail Honey is offering the first fall honey, harvested this week — a robust flavored darker honey from goldenrod, plus other varieties of fresh, seasonal honey and honeycomb, all raw and local, certified Kosher by Rabbi Kilimnick in time for Rosh Hashanah; visit the educational display for local non profit NY Bee Wellness with live honeybees. Lavender Moon is bringing herbal products including soaps, lotions, salves, and culinary blends including fair trade flavored gourmet cocoas.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have bag size maple cotton candy, tastings of assorted maple products, three flavors of Grade A maple syrup (golden, amber, and dark), maple cream spread, maple garlic rub, granulated maple sugar, maple coffee, maple black and herbal tea, all natural maple dog biscuits, and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm. Nordic Farm will have jellies and jams including Concord grape jelly, Niagara grape jelly, hot pepper jams, pickles, and granola.

Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, panang, shepherds, Irish bean, and bacon and veggie pot pies, plus grape and peach pies. Pasta Classics will have fall flavored ravioli including pumpkin and butternut squash, and fresh pasta varieties including egg, toasted onion and chive, and tomato basil.

JonJohn’s Bakery
is bringing baked macaroni and cheese, roast pork sliders, zucchini muffins, blueberry zucchini bread, fresh fruit pies, tarts and cobblers, lemon blueberry cake, fresh blueberry and raspberry muffins, chocolate brownies muffins, crazy peanut butter brownies, carrot cake and cheesecake brownies, a limited supply of dream pie, croissants, peanut butter balls, special double decker cake, Grandma’s breakfast cake, pumpkin crunch cake, and grape pies. Biscotti for Everybotti is featuring pumpkin biscotti made with pumpkin from Bolton Farms, available either with organic New York State grown wheat or gluten free.

Rise and Shine Bread will have English muffin bread, asiago ciabatta, focccia, honey wheat, raisin, beer bread, sweet breads, and brownies. Fuego Coffee will have two varieties of hot coffee, cold brew, whole bean coffee, sparkling water, apple cider and ridge donuts.

Flour City Pasta is featuring fall flavors pumpkin pappardelle and autumn harvest orzo and recommends this recipe. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing regular, gluten free, vegan, and low carb cookies, plus chocolate fudge.

This week we welcome guest vendor Chabad Jewish Center, which will offer challah and honey cakes for Rosh Hashanah.

EBT/SNAP Bonus Program/Fresh Connect Checks

We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. Purchase at least $10 in tokens with an EBT card, and receive $5 in bonus tokens to be used at the market to purchase EBT eligible foods. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.
