This Week at the Market – May 20, 2018

Last Sunday’s Opening Day for the summer season of the Brighton Farmers’ Market was perfect! Thanks to glorious weather, Supervisor Moehle, young vine-holders, Flexitarians, wonderful farmers and vendors, and our great community of customers. It’s going to be a very good season!

Despite spring’s late and lazy arrival, farmers will have some great spring crops this week. Fisher Hill Farm is bringing tender green garlic, asparagus, lots of veggies, chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Clearview Farm is bringing rhubarb, freshly-dug ramps, scallions, dried herbs, eggs, dried black beans, and 100% grass-grown beef in a variety of cuts.

Growing Family Farms will have a large selection of certified organic nursery starts including heirloom tomatoes, larger potted varieties for earlier yields, peppers, lettuce, kale, cardoons, and more; fresh produce will include spring onions, green garlic, romaine lettuce,  baby kale, pea shoots, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing assorted cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pasture-raised pork, free-range chicken eggs, and raw wildflower honey; all meat and eggs are certified organic and raised without soy or corn.

Flowerwell will have loads of fresh Rochester lilac. Lighthouse Gardens is bringing certified organic herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chards, Asian greens, beets, leeks, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, and many others, plus an enormous selection of succulents in pots and hanging baskets, perennials, flowering hanging baskets, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, patio tomato planters, and organic potting soil.

K&S Bischoping will have crunchy Jonagold, Macoun, Gala, and Gold Delicious apples. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce is bringing certified organic salad mix, spinach, arugula, red radishes, salad turnips, pea shoots, sunflower shoots, chives, and onions.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing garden transplants including ten varieties of tomatoes, sweet peppers, eggplant, culinary herbs, medicinal plants, flowers, cucumbers, and squash; vegetables including Cherry Belle Radishes, Fresh Breakfast radishes, hakurei sweet turnips, green leaf lettuce, spinach, spicy salad mix, asparagus, and scallions; and Wild Thistle Herbal products including salves, teas, balms, and oils.

Bolton Farms will have lettuce bouquets, spring mix, arugula, watercress, spicy mix, butterhead bibb lettuce, cilantro, dandelion greens broccoli raab, and kale. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic pasture-raised broiler chickens (wholes and halves), certified organic pasture-raised whole pekin ducks, grass-fed lamb raised on organic pastures (ground, riblets, shoulder roasts, and chops), and certified organic pasture-raised heritage breed pork sausages, bacons, roasts, spare ribs, and chops.

Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic shiitake and lion’s mane mushrooms. Deep Root Farm is bringing baby kale, arugula, bunched kale, bunched chard, ramps (Eric hopes!), salad mix, pea shoots, and pac choi.

Stonecrop Farm is bringing certified organic eggs, fresh whole organic chickens and chicken parts (boneless breast, leg quarters, wings, gizzards, necks, feet, and frames), cuts of pasture-raised heritage pork (chops, shoulder roasts, sausage, smoked bacon, deli ham, ham steaks, ground pork, smoked and fresh hocks, bones, and organ meats). Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic asparagus, fresh full size overwintered leeks, sunchokes, and fresh herbs.

Newbury Park Pastries will have proper pork pies made with three cuts of meat and lard from Stonecrop Farm, chicken, panang, shepherds, veggie, shrimp panang, pulled pork, and shrimp and grits pot pies, plus cut-out cookies, triple berry and raspberry tarts, and banana cream and coconut cream pies. East Hill Creamery is bringing Alpine-style grass-fed raw milk cheese, cheese crisps, and spreadable cheese dips made with aged Underpass cheese; flavors include Spicy Mexican, Tasty Bavarian, and Beefy Caramelized Onion, good for dipping, spreading, and melting.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing spring to fall seasonal honeys and honeycomb, certified Kosher, cute mini bears, nuts in honey, infused honeys, pure beeswax, and candles, all from the small scale small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including six cheese, feta & spinach, and crab & shrimp, plus ravioli bakes, fresh pasta, and handmade strombolis.

RocBucha is bringing kombucha flavors blueberry mint, strawberry basil, ginger, and pineapple ginger; on tap (for cups and growlers) will be strawberry basil and blackberry orange. JonJohn’s Bakery will have mom’s mac & cheese; blueberry, mixed berry, brownie, and lemon blueberry muffins; carrot cake; peanut butter balls; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; super brownies; beyond chocolate layer cake; lemon cakes; rhubarb pie and blackberry pie, and cheesecake.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Impact Earth is offering a food waste and compostable wares hauling service at the Market; pick up a bucket and pay a deposit, return your filled bucket next week, and pick up a clean new bucket; more info hereFuego Coffee is featuring a drink special: hibiscus lemonade — a blend of fresh squeezed lemonade and herbal hibiscus tea.

Eat Me Ice Cream will have dairy-free ice cream bars in vanilla and hibiscus; dairy ice cream bars in fudge, deep & dark, and orange dipped; and a variety of dairy and dairy-free ice cream pints. Farmhouse Table is bringing a selection of fresh salads and baked goods featuring ingredients from Fisher Hill Farm, Lakestone Family Farm, and Bolton Farms.

Tripleberry Farm is bringing lots of freshly-made pesticide-free, traditional and reduced sugar berry jams, plus goat milk soaps, this week featuring a new scent, Very Berry — a mix of spiced berries and apples. Le Petit Poutine is featuring sausage gravy with an egg on top for the breakfast special, and will have sweet and floral lemon lavender soda to celebrate spring.

Lavender Moon is featuring all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off along with many herbal favorites. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing almond and coconut granola bars, chocolate chip and peanut butter granola bars, cookies (including gluten free and vegan), and chocolate fudge. Flour City Pasta is bringing lots of pastas for summer salads.
