This Week at the Market – October 23, 2016

Two weeks remain for the summer Brighton Farmers’ Market — still time to get your pumpkins from Lily and the gang at Fisher Hill Farm. Next week, October 30, is the last summer market. We’ll be celebrating a great season, and Halloween — kids in costume next week get a free apple at the Good Grub Club table! On November 6, the winter Brighton Farmers’ Market opens. Join us every Sunday from 1 to 4 pm in Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road, with a second entrance to the building between Westfall and 590.

This week Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic apples, lettuce, arugula, potatoes, onions, celeriac, kohlrabi, carrots, and daikon radishes, plus honey and Wild Thistle herbal products. K&S Bischoping will have quince and a large variety of apples including Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Gold Delicious, Cortland, Gala, Fuji, Macoun, Empire, and Crispin, plus a good selection of heirlooms including Snow (Fameuse), Black Gilliflower, and Caville Blanc.

Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic spinach, arugula, baby lettuce mix, Swiss chard, assorted lettuce baskets, French breakfast radishes, hakurei salad turnips, garlic, green sweet peppers, and jalapenos. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic carrots, broccoli, lettuce, sweet potatoes, spinach, salad mix, green cabbage, arugula, onions, potatoes, leeks, beets, radishes, turnips, kale, collard greens, sweet peppers (red, yellow, and orange), green beans, zucchini, pie pumpkins, and garlic.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring grass-fed lamb: ground, leg, shoulder, and soup bones for broth. Lighthouse Gardens will have a large selection of hardy mums, organic rainbow cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, hot peppers, garlic, butterling potatoes, rainbow Swiss chard, tender mixed kale, mesclun mix, mizuna mix, braising mix, Asian greens, baby spinach, leeks, red and golden beets, scallions, fresh cut cilantro, radishes (French Breakfast, Easter Egg, and Easter Greeting), herb and vegetable transplants, perennials, mixed herb planters, and a large variety of indoor and outdoor succulents.

Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh certified organic ginger, turmeric, chicken, and eggs, as well as pasture raised duck and pork. Lakestone Family Farm will have fresh whole chickens, a full variety of chicken pieces including bones for soup and broth, fresh eggs, winter squash (butternut, acorn, sweet dumpling, spaghetti, delicata, buttercup, kabocha, and Long Island cheese), pie pumpkins, curly and Tuscan kale, savoy and green cabbage, broccoli and broccoli raab, red and green pac choi, hakurei turnips, lettuce, purple and white potatoes, tomatoes, sweet frying and bell peppers, hot cherry and banana peppers, lunchbox peppers, Japanese eggplant, and beets, all certified organic.

Growing Family Farms is bringing certified organic hearty fall mesclun (arugula, spinach, mizuna, peashoots), heirloom and cherry tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers, rattlesnake pole beans, heirloom winter squash, Nantucket pie pumpkins, sunnies, Adirondack blue potatoes, Salem white potatoes, garlic braids, sweet red and white onions, French breakfast radishes, pasture raised chicken, celery, escarole, endive, Mediterranean cardoons, and Singer Naturals tart cherry juice. Bristol Mushrooms will have three varieties of fresh picked, certified organic mushrooms: shiitake, lion’s mane, and king oyster.

Bolton Farms will have bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, escarole, arugula, basil, bok choi, Tuscan kale, curly kale, winter squash (delicata, butternut, buttercup, sweet meat, spaghetti, and acorn), green beans, and cilantro. Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs is bringing freshly cut flat leaf and curly parsley, cilantro, chives, sage, thyme, peppermint, spearmint, chamomile, oregano, rosemary, French tarragon, hot peppers, raw honey, shelling peas, rainbow radishes, teas, and spices.

Smugtown Mushrooms will have fresh shiitake and oyster mushrooms, radical mycology books, and medicinal mushroom tinctures. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing bag size maple cotton fluff, pure maple syrup (gold, amber and dark), maple cream spread, granulated maple sugar, maple garlic rub, maple coffee, maple tea, wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats, soft and hard sugar shapes, and body care products: maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip and warming balm.

Small World Food is featuring fresh pressed cider. Pasta Classics will have fall flavored ravioli including butternut squash, sweet potato walnut and craisin, and apple gorgonzola and walnut; Nancy will also have fresh pumpkin pasta. Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, beef stew, panang, veggie, pulled lpork, and shepherds pot pies plus seasonal sweet pies.

Flour City Pasta is bringing jalapeno gnocchetti with a recipe for salsa mac & cheese. Brian’s Kitchen will have old fashioned all natural ingredient cookies and chocolate fudge. This week was the final harvest of raw, rich fall honey from Seaway Trail Honey, before getting the bees ready for winter; in addition a limited quantity of freshly harvested honey from Pat’s teaching hive at Tinker Park in Henrietta is available, and fresh seasonal, raw honey and honeycomb in various sizes.

Tripleberry Farm is bringing freshly made pesticide-free jams, goat milk soaps with some new fall scents, and specialty chocolate caramel apples, plain or with candy toppings.  Fuego Coffee will have options for hot brewed coffee, French quarter cold brew, toddy cold brew, freshly roasted whole bean coffee, cold apple cider, donuts, cookies, adn sparkling water.

JonJohn’s Bakery will have baked macaroni & cheese, pumpkin muffins, zucchini muffins, blueberry and raspberry muffins, fresh fruit pies and cobblers, pumpkin cheesecake, lemon blueberry cake, chocolate brownie muffins, triple German chocolate cake, crazy brownies, carrot cake, croissants, peanut butter balls, triple decker cake, Grandma’s breakfast cake, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cranberry cookies, frosted sugar cookies, and chocolate dipped cookies.

EBT/SNAP Bonus Program/Fresh Connect Checks

We’re pleased to offer our Market Bonus Program for EBT/SNAP customers. Purchase at least $10 in tokens with an EBT card, and receive $5 in bonus tokens to be used at the market to purchase EBT eligible foods. We now are also offering Fresh Connect Checks to SNAP customers; this state-funded program allows us to give a $2 Fresh Connect Check with each $5 in tokens purchased with an EBT/SNAP card, which can be used to purchase any SNAP-eligible foods at the market.

Winter Market

The summer season of the Brighton Farmers’ Market contiues through October 30. The Winter Market opens November 6 and runs through May 7, 2017. The Winter Market will again be held in Brighton’s Brookside Center, 220 Idlewood Road, with a second convenient entrance off S. Winton between Westfall and 590.
