This Week at the Market – September 23, 2018

We welcome fall this week at Brighton Farmers’ Market, with gratitude for the abundant harvest the new season promises. This week Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic pears, apples, squash, eggplant, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, sweet onions, scallions, leeks, sweet and hot peppers, lettuce, and kale. Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic celery, spinach, lettuce bouquets, green onions, sweet peppers, hot peppers, Asian eggplant, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, San Marzano sauce tomatoes, potatoes (red, gold, and blue), Swiss chard, kale, eggs, and whole chickens and chicken pieces.

Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic plum tomatoes, salad mix, spinach, arugula, baby kale, green romaine lettuce, red and green leaf lettuce, yellow onions, red beets, green zucchini, cilantro, green summer cabbage, red radishes, salad turnips, red and yellow potatoes, pea and sunflower shoots, and garlic. Bolton Farms will have bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, watercress, sweet corn, winter squash, bok choi, basil, dandelion greens, Swiss chard, micro greens, Red Russian kale, and heirloom tomatoes.

K&S Bischoping will have Asian pears, red raspberries, nectarines, and apples including Honeycrisp, Daybreak Fuji, Mac, Macoun, Ginger Gold, and Gala, and heirlooms including Pitmaston Pineapple, Orange Pippin, and Melrose. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished Hereford beef, cuts of pasture-raised heritage breed pork including some from American Guinea hogs, chicken from the pastured Freedom Ranger flock and fresh raw spring honey; all meats and eggs are raised on pasture without soy, corn, or wheat.

Growing Family Farms will have certified organic heirloom, saladette, sauce, and grape tomatoes; bulk Romas; sweet peppers; giant stuffing jalapenos; habanda and habaneros; poblanos; eggplant; Italian dandelion; kale; chard; romaine;  fall butter crisp salad mix; pea shoots; scallions, Asian pears; cucumbers; summer squash; golden beets; romanesco pole beans; baby potatoes; delicata squash; fresh dill, cilantro, parsley, and basil; and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Bristol Mushrooms is bringing shiitake and lion’s mane mushroom, fresh picked and certified organic.

Stonecrop Farm
is bringing the final harvest of fresh organic ginger and turmeric for the year; pasture raised pork chops, roasts, sausage, bacon, ground pork, deli ham, hocks, trotters, bones, and organ meats; and fresh certified organic whole chickens, boneless breast, leg quarters, wings, backs, and organ meats. Chicory Blue Gardens will have bouquets of bright zinnias, blue ageratum, ornamental grasses, celosia, statice, sunflowers, and single stem lilies.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring grass-fed lamb shanks, shoulder roasts, and leg of lamb roasts. Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic tasty green Roma beans, slicing and pickling cucumbers, Sunburst patty pan summer squash, zucchini, basil (Genovese, lemon, and Tulsi), dill, tomatoes, garlic, catnip, spearmint, eggs, buckwheat, and organically-fed 100% grass-grown Black Angus beef including steaks, roasts, ground beef, and assorted cuts.

Lighthouse Gardens will have organic cherry, saladette, and slicing tomatoes; sweet Italian frying, jalapeno, and poblano peppers; eggplant; summer squash and striped zucchini; celery; radishes; hakurei turnips; garlic; green beans; rattlesnake pole beans; carrots; cabbage; kale; ground cherries; honey; herb and vegetable transplants; succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; perennials; hostas; herb planters; berry plants; organic potting soil; and fall chrysanthemums. Flowerwell is bringing loads of dahlias, ranging from dinner plate to ball dahlias.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing fresh raw late summer/fall honey — a robust dark amber honey, harvested from the bees on Thursday; summer honey — a pale, amber honey; early summer honey — a light sweet honey from basswood/linden blossoms and other wildflowers; and dark fall honey; honeycomb; cute mini bears; gift packs; certified Kosher; nuts in honey; infused honeys; pure beeswax; and candles, all from the small scale, small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated cashews and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

RocBucha is bringing bottled kombucha in blueberry-mint, strawberry-basil, ginger, pineapple-ginger, and new pumpkin-clove and apple-cinnamon; on tap will be Noto Fruit Farm apple-cinnamon, Stonecrop Farm ginger, and pear. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, culinary blends, all forms of shea butter concoctions, gourds for fall decorating, and complimentary cups of hibiscus cooler tea.

Eat Me ice Cream is bringing NYS Certified Dairy bars including classic fudge bar and berry shortcake; Vegan Certified Dairy-free in chocolate chip, fudge, and vanilla; and a variety of pints in fleeting summer flavors — buy one pint, get one pint 1/2 off. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors six cheese; roasted red pepper & goat cheese; and sausage & roasted garlic, plus a wide variety of strombolis, and spinach & basil pasta.

Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, veggie, pulled pork, Asian short rib, panang, and shepherds pot pies plus sweet pies and tarts made with local fruit. Flour City Pasta is bringing fall flavors pumpkin pappardelle and autumn harvest orzo.

JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing mom’s mac & cheese, blueberry muffins, extreme chocolate brownies, three layer lemon raspberry cake, grandma’s breakfast cake, blueberry chocolate chip breakfast cake, lemon blueberry cake, chocolate marble cake with ganache, bourbon balls, and peanut butter balls.

Impact Earth is offering a food waste and compostible wares hauling service at the Market; pick up a bucket and pay a deposit, return your filled bucket next week, and pick up a clean new bucket. Thanks to Impact Earth for collecting trash and recycling at the Market each week to promote our efforts to be a zero-waste Market.
