This Week at the Market – June 10, 2018

The annual Bike Rodeo will be held this week at the Market. Starting at 10 am, kids 5-11 can test their riding skills, get a bike safety check-up, and learn the rules of the road. There will be free bike helmets for kids, a bike raffle, and bike literature. Kids (with parent) can register at the event. The Bike Rodeo is sponsored by the Brighton Police Department, Brighton Police Explorers Post 357, and the Town of Brighton Recreation Department.

This week Dearhaven Farm will have certified organic kale (ruffled and lacinato), celery, purple and green kohlrabi, fennel, baby beets, lettuce (romaine, bibb, and other), and fresh herbs. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pasture-raised pork, eggs from free-ranging hens, and fresh cut tender young chickens as well as whole chickens (all meats and eggs raised without soy, corn, or wheat and certified organic); Della will also have raw wildflower honey, and essential oil soaps and candles made from farm fats and other special farm-raised ingredients.

Clearview Farm
is bringing rhubarb, scallions, dried herbs, organic eggs, dried black beans, buckwheat, and 100% grass-grown beef in a variety of cuts. Lagoner Farms will have the first strawberries of the season in limited quantity, plus rhubarb, asparagus, and apples.

Growing Family Farms
will have certified organic buttercrisp salad mix, romaine, pea shoots, spring onions, cucumbers, green garlic, and freshly cut herbs (basil, cilantro,, parsley); nursery stock including Roma and San Marzano tomato plants, potted herbs, sweet peppers, strawberry, and tomato baskets; pasture-raised chicken and duck eggs; raw wildflower honey; and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Stonecrop Farm is bringing certified organic fresh whole chickens and chicken parts including boneless breasts, leg quarters, wings, feet and organ meats; and cuts of pasture-raised heritage pork including chops, shoulder roasts, sausage, smoked ham steaks, ground pork, and soup bones.

R&M Bischoping
will have pesticide-free strawberries, honey, beeswax lotion bars and lip balms, and honey soaps. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring pasture-raised, organically-fed heritage breed pork sausages prepared with certified organic seasonings and sea salt, grass-fed ground lamb, and pasture-raised ground pork; Shannon and Walter recommend this recipe that combines the ground lamb and ground pork.

Bolton Farms will have butterhead bibb lettuce, spring mix, lettuce bouquets, tatsoi, watercress, mustard greens (spicy mix), red Russian kale, and curly kale. K&S Bischoping will have lots of apples — Crispin, Cortland, Cameo, Jonagold, and Golden Delicious.

Lighthouse Gardens will have organic cherry tomatoes; herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kales, chards, Asian greens, beets, leeks, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, and many others; an enormous selection of succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; perennials; hostas; lettuce bowls; herb planters; berry plants; patio tomato planters; and organic potting soil.

Fisher Hill Farm is bringing lots of new vegetables — kale, chard, radish, scallions, spring mix, green garlic, pea and sunflower shoots, microgreens, asparagus, beets, rhubarb, and more, plus chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Chicory Blue Gardens returns to the Market with a lovely assortment of flowers in pretty mixed bouquets.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing organic strawberries, lettuce, spinach, garlic, herb transplants, beets, and golden beets. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have organic salad mix, arugula, romaine and green leaf lettuce, radishes, turnips, baby kale, pea shoots, and onions.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing spring to fall seasonal honeys and honeycomb, certified Kosher, cute mini bears, nuts in honey, infused honeys, pure beeswax, and candles, all from the small scale, small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Newbury Park Pastries
will have chicken, panang, shepherds, pulled pork, lobster mac and cheese, veggie, chicken & biscuit, and proper pork pot pies; sweets will include cut out cookies, banana cream pies, raspberry rhubarb pies and tarts, and cherry cheesecake tarts. Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors including six cheese, sausage & roasted garlic, and apple & gorgonzola with apples from K&S Bischoping; Nancy will also have strombolis, fresh pasta, and handmade cheese gnocchi.

JonJohn’s Bakery will have lemonade; mom’s mac & cheese; blueberry, mixed berry, peanut butter brownie, and lemon blueberry muffins; carrot cake; peanut butter balls; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; four layers of lemon surprise; rhubarb pie and blackberry pie; super brownies; beyond chocolate layer cake; and some surprises.

Farmhouse Table
is bringing orzo pasta salad with rainbow Swiss chard from Fisher Hill Farm and spring green onions, quinoa salad with fresh asparagus and roasted beets, and a special of pickled radish from Lakestone Family Farms — perfect as a bit of brightness on a salad or just as a snack. Lavender Moon is bringing wonderfully scented all natural repellents Bug Off and Tick Me Off, and will offer free samples of hibiscus tea.

Eat Me Ice Cream will have dairy ice cream bars in deep & dark chocolate, fudge bars, and fresh minty chip using mint from Growing Family Farms; dairy-free s’mores bars, fresh minty chip bars with Growing Family Farms’ mint, and lavender bars; and assorted pints including fresh minty chip, vanilla, lemon balm, locally-foraged black raspberry, and s’mores. Fuego Coffee’s drink special is hibiscus lemonade.

RocBucha bottle flavors include ginger, strawberry-basil, pineapple-ginger, and blueberry-mint; on tap will be ginger, pear, and pineapple-ginger. Flour City Pasta will have a selection of hot spicy pastas.
