This Week at the Market – May 27, 2018

Spring has been so beautiful this year. May’s glories were especially welcome after our long winter, and we’re sorry to see the month end. There is plenty blooming and growing on the farms right now, such as these apple trees in delicate flower on the K&S Bischoping Farm in Williamson. While waiting for these trees to bear fruit, Karen Bischoping will have still sweet and crunchy Jonagold, Gala, Macoun, and Golden Delicious apples at the Market this week.

Growing Family Farms will have a large selection of certified organic nursery stock including heirloom tomatoes, Roma and San Marzano tomato plants, sweet and hot pepper plants, and potted herbs, and fresh produce including baby kale, romaine lettuce, spring onions, green garlic, fresh-cut herbs (cilantro, parsley, and basil), pasture raised chicken and duck eggs, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing assorted cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, a selection of pasture-raised pork, free-range chicken eggs, and raw wildflower honey; all meat and eggs are certified organic and raised without corn or soy.

Squash Blossom Farm returns to the Market with butter lettuce, romaine lettuce, frisee, Tuscan and curly kale, cilantro, broccolini, arugula, chard, sage, cress, and green garlic. Lighthouse Gardens is bringing certified organic herb and vegetable transplants including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuces, kale, chards, Asian greens, beets, leeks, onions, cole crops, cucumbers, squashes, and more, plus an enormous selection of succulents in pots and hanging baskets, perennials, flowering hanging baskets, lettuce bowls, herb planters, berry plants, patio tomato planters, and organic potting soil.

Lakestone Family Farm will have red and green baby bok choi, gunsho flowering broccoli, tatsoi, bunch spinach, baby spinach, arugula, and spicy salad; this season Denis is offering 18-packs of fresh pasture-raised organic eggs in addition to dozens and jumbos, and is introducing a new chicken cut — frenched chicken shoulders — a bite-size tender with a clean bone to handle as finger food or appetizer, juicy and crisp with 4 minutes cooking, and will also have fresh-cut chicken breasts, thighs, thigh quarters, drumsticks, wings, tenders, split breast, halves and wholes, and spatchcock whole chickens. Bristol  Mushrooms will have lion’s mane, shiitake, and king oyster mushrooms, fresh-picked and certified organic.

Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic asparagus, baby Asian greens, assorted head lettuce (romaine, burgundy, and green frisee), crisp sweet overwintered leek, spinach, celery, and fresh herbs, all picked Saturday or just before market on Sunday. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic salad mix, arugula, spinach, radishes, turnips, baby kale, pea and sunflower shoots, and onions.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic pasture-raised whole and half chickens, certified organic pasture raised whole ducks, pasture-raised heritage breed pork spare ribs, and a variety of pork sausages, all processed with organic seasonings and natural sea salt. Deep Root Farm is bringing spinach, baby kale, salad mix, bunched kale, and Swiss chard.

Fisher Hill Farm is harvesting asparagus, bok choi, Swiss chard, scallions, green garlic, salad mix, sunflower shoots, microgreens, and more, and will have fresh chicken, eggs, and Red Jacket juices. Lagoner Farms will have asparagus, rhubarb, and apples — Jonagold, Crispin, Empire, and Golden Delicious.

Bolton Farms will have lettuce bouquets, arugula, watercress, spring mix, Boston bibb lettuce, red Russian kale, curly kale, Tuscan kale, bok choi, broccoli raab, dandelion greens, micro greens, and Swiss chard. Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic spinach, hakurei turnips, asparagus, lettuce, medicinal herb transplants, culinary herb transplants, veggie transplants (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, ground cherries), and will also have Wild Thistle Herbal products.

Smugtown Mushrooms will have fresh golden oyster, shiitake, lion’s mane, king trumpet, and maitake mushrooms; plus grow kits of shiitake, oyster, lion’s mane, and reishi; starter spawn of wine cap mushrooms; kombucha starter kits; medicinal mushroom tinctures; and field guides for mushroom hunting. Clearview Farm is bringing rhubarb, hopefully freshly-dug ramps, scallions, dried herbs, organic eggs, dried black beans, buckwheat, and 100% grass-grown beef in a variety of cuts.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shape candy; and maple vanilla body care products — soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing spring to fall seasonal honeys and honeycomb, certified Kosher, cute mini bears, nuts in honey, infused honeys, pure beeswax, and candles, all from the small scale small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario. Lavender Moon will have lots of Bug Off and Tick Me Off all natural repellents along with culinary blends for the Memorial Day barbecue and hibiscus cooler for summer thirst quenching.

Eat Me Ice Cream is bringing NYS certified dairy ice cream (Deep & Dark chocolate bars, fudge bars, citrus ice cream dipped in chocolate bars, and a variety of pints) and vegan certified dairy-free ice cream (hibiscus ice cream bars, fudge bars, and a variety of pints). RocBucha will have RocBucha bottles in ginger, strawberry-basil, blueberry-mint, and pineapple-ginger, and on tap, in cup or growler, pineapple-ginger, blueberry-mint, and strawberry-basil.

Pasta Classics will have ravioli including prosciutto and provolone, roasted red pepper & goat cheese, and smoked mozzarella & asparagus from Fisher Hill Farm, also fresh pasta and a wide variety of strombolis for holiday gatherings. Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free traditional and reduced sugar berry jams and lots of goat milk soaps.

Newbury Park Pastries will have proper pork pies with three cuts of pasture-raised meat from Stonecrop Farm, plus chicken, veggie, shrimp panang, bacon double cheeseburger, shepherds, panang and shrimp & grits pot pies; Kate will also have sweet pies including banana and coconut cream as well as cut-out cookies. Fuego Coffee is featuring matcha lemonade — half lemonade, half matcha green tea.

Farmhouse Table will have a selection of fresh salads and picnic sides, plus fruit tarts including strawberry rhubarb. Flour City Pasta is bringing lots of pastas for picnic salads.

Brian’s Kitchen will have chocolate fudge, granola bars, and cookies. JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing lemonade; mom’s mac & cheese; blueberry, mixed berry, and peanut butter brownies; lemon blueberry muffins; carrot cake; peanut butter balls; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; four layers of lemon surprise; rhubarb pie and blackberry pie; cheesecake; super brownies; and beyond chocolate layer cake.
