Autumn and Public Safety Day at the Market

This Week at the Market – September 24, 2017

Autumn is here! It may feel extra summery this weekend, but at Brighton Farmers’ Market the fall harvest will be on glorious display, with all the summer crops still abundant. As an extra treat, this Sunday is our annual Public Safety DayBrighton Fire Department will join us to offer information on keeping our families and community safe. Kids are especially welcome to check out the Department’s shiny new Pierce 107-foot aerial ladder truck.

Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic leeks, garlic, winter squash, radishes, salad turnips, onions, green cabbage, potatoes, microgreens, ginger, and turmeric. Shady Lane Farm will have cherry tomatoes, edamame, leeks, sweet potatoes, beet greens, sweet bell and shishito peppers, cucamelons, cape gooseberries, banana shallots, sweet and cooking onions, spaghetti squash, flat-leaf parsley, and fresh cut flower bouquets.

Dearhaven Farm is bringing certified organic vine-ripened heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, spinach, leeks, head lettuce (romaine, summer iceberg, and loose oakleaf), garlic, shallots, sweet red Tropea onions, yellow cooking onions, zucchini, potatoes, carrots, beets, winter squash, parsley, and basil. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring grass-fed lamb: chops, ground, and leg of lamb.

Lakestone Family Farm is bringing certified organic garlic; Keuka Gold, Adirondack, and Red Norland potatoes; sweet peppers; banana, poblano, and jalapeno hot peppers; tomatillos; ground cherries; mustard greens; arugula; baby kale; Swiss chard; red, green, and Tuscan kale; beets; baby bok choi; gunsho flowering broccoli; dill; cilantro; eggs; and a large quantity of cut chicken pieces as well as fresh whole chickens. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic plum tomatoes, spinach, carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, salad mix, arugula, pea shoots, baby kale, romaine and red leaf lettuce, colored peppers, yellow snap beans, red and yellow potatoes, spaghetti squash, yellow onions, hardneck garlic, and green cabbage.

Lighthouse Gardens will have certified organic cherry, saladette, cocktail, and slicing tomatoes; shishito, yellow bell, and super sweet Italian frying peppers; delicious green and red celery; carrots; red and gold beets; hot Ostergruss, sweet Korean daikon, Easter Egg, and watermelon radishes; hakurei turnips; white eggplant; Tendersweet and napa cabbage; acorn and delicata winter squash; green beans; rainbow Swiss chard; baby kale; lettuce bouquets; salad mix; garlic; chrysanthemums; unique succulent planters; summer blooming perennials; larger pots of herbs; and zinnia bouquets. Stonecrop Farm is featuring fresh certified organic turmeric and ginger, as well as cuts of fresh pasture raised heritage pork including chops, tenderloin, and shoulder roasts; fresh whole chickens and chicken parts; whole ducks; and turkey parts.

Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have jalapeno and cayenne hot peppers, rainbow radishes, catnip, cilantro, curly parsley, dill, flat-leaf parsley, French tarragon, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, sage, stevia, and thyme, plus frozen pizza crusts, pizza dough, and biscuits. K&S Bischoping will have red raspberries, Asian and Starking Delicious pears, and apples — Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Macoun, Cortland, McIntosh, Ginger Gold, Twenty Ounce, and a good selection of heirloom apples including Fearn’s Pippin and Jonathan.

Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing 100% grass-fed and grass-finished organic beef, a full array of pork cuts and three kinds of sausage from organic pasture-raised pigs fed no corn or soy, frozen organic duck from the pasture-raised flock also fed no soy or corn, organic eggs from free-ranging hens, fresh raw honey, and farmstead soaps and candles made with organic ingredients from the farm. Tripleberry Farm will have the last of the fall strawberries and blackberries, jams including peach, available in traditional and reduced sugar, and goat milk soaps.

Growing Family Farms is bringing certified organic tomatoes, Italian eggplant, Japanese cukes, peppers (tangerine, poblano, yellow bells, Habanda), delicata squash, fresh onions, fingerling potatoes, fresh Hawaiian turmeric, Asian pears, pasture-raised eggs, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Bristol Mushrooms will have certified organic lion’s mane mushrooms.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing certified Kosher raw, fresh, local seasonal award-winning honeycomb and honey, from spring to fall pure wildflower honey from the bees by the shore of Lake Ontario; flavorful local black walnuts in honey; and live honey bees for the non-profit NY Bee Wellness educational display (see Pat’s comments about wasps vs. bees here). Bolton Farms will have heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, cauliflower, beefsteak tomatoes, spring mix, Boston bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, arugula, watercress, parsley, bok choi, and basil.

Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic kohlrabi, red and green cabbage, rutabaga, celeriac, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, garlic, squash (butternut, acorn, and delicata), pie pumpkins, kale, Enterprise and GoldRush apples, watermelon radishes, daikon radishes, and purple top turnips. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple cotton candy; maple coated almonds, cashews, and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; maple cream spread; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple mustard; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal-maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, panang, shepherds, and veggie pot pies along with seasonal sweet pies, tarts, and galettes. Pasta Classics is bringing pumpkin ravioli and sweet potato & craisin ravioli, plus ravioli bakes and baked stuffed breads.

Laughing Gull Chocolates will have salted caramel chocolate sauce for ice cream and frozen hot chocolate. Lavender Moon is offering end of summer savings on Bug Off, Tick Me Off, and Anti Itch spray, and will have soaps, salves, lotions, culinary blends, and green grapes; stop by for a free sample of hibiscus tea.

Brian’s Kitchen is bringing cookies, chocolate fudge, and granola bars, mostly traditional, all dairy-free, and some gluten free and/or vegan. JonJohn’s Bakery will have mixed berry, brownie, and chocolate chip muffins; raspberry cake with ganache; classic carrot cake; lemon blueberry cake; banana bread with chocolate chips and walnuts; star cakes; blueberry peach pie; blueberry pie; grandma’s breakfast cake; chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies; peanut butter balls; and dark chocolate bourbon balls.
