August Abundance

This Week at the Market – August 13, 2017

The abundance of the mid-August harvest is on full, glorious display at Brighton Farmers’ Market this week. Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic plum tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, carrots, spinach, spaghetti squash, slicing and pickling cucumbers, beets, salad mix, arugula, baby kale, red and green leaf lettuce, green peppers, sweet onions, yellow snap beans, hardneck garlic, green cabbage, and pea shoots. Dearhaven Farm is bringing spray-free tree-ripened peaches, brandywine heirloom tomatoes, Adirondack red and Carola potatoes, green and purple snap peas, cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, sweet onions, shallots, beets, garlic, carrots, summer squash and herbs, all certified organic.

Buzz’s Garden is bringing certified organic potatoes, onions, scallions, cilantro, basil, ground cherries, green peppers, summer squash, cucumbers, green cabbage, napa cabbage, heirloom tomatoes, and garlic. Shady Lane Farm will have sweet and torpedo onions, red cabbage, chard, red and albino beets, beet greens, cherry tomatoes, fresh-cut chives, and Italian parsley, and colorful summer bouquets.

Lighthouse Gardens will have organic cherry tomatoes, red and orange sweet peppers, green and yellow striped zucchini, eggplant, pickling cucumbers, beets, Easter egg and hot Ostergruss radishes, green beans, rainbow Swiss chard, baby kale, lettuce bouquets, salad mix, garlic, chrysanthemums, unique succulent planters, perennials, larger pots of herbs, and cut sunflowers. Stonecrop Farm is bringing certified organic eggs; fresh whole chickens and chicken parts including boneless breast, leg quarters, wings, feet, and organs; organic turkey parts; whole pasture raised ducks; and a variety of cuts of pastured heritage pork.

R&M Bischoping will have green beans, zucchini, jalapeno peppers, bell peppers, tomatillos, sunflowers, basil, kale, fresh cut bouquets, honey, handmade soaps, and beeswax lip balms; ask for a sample of creamed honey. Lagoner Farms will have freestone Red Haven peaches, nectarines, donut peaches, plums, raspberries, blueberries, and early gold apples.

Fellenz Family Farms will have onions, shallots, scallions, sweet onions, garlic, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, sauce tomatoes (bulk available), basil, tomatillos, ground cherries, jalapenos, sweet peppers, eggplant, melons, and Wild Thistle herbal products. Shannon Brook Farm is featuring certified organic, pasture-raised whole and half broiler chickens plus necks, gizzards, livers, hearts, and feet.

Honeybee Happy & Healthy Herbs will have sungold cherry tomatoes, jalapeno and cayenne hot peppers, rainbow radishes, elderberries, lots of fresh basil, catnip, chamomile, chives, cilantro, dill, flat-leaf parsley, French tarragon, lemon balm, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, sage, spearmint, and thyme, along with frozen pizza crusts, biscuits, and soft pretzels. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing organic 100% grass fed and grass finished beef, organic pork and sausage from pasture raised pigs fed no corn or soy, organic chicken and eggs from free ranging chickens fed no soy or corn (sale on whole fresh chickens), and farmstead soaps, candles, and jams made with organic ingredients from the farm.

Bolton Farms will have lettuce, arugula, watercress, kale, micro greens, sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, turnips, squash, and basil. K&S Bischoping is bringing freestone peaches, Pristine apples, and an assortment of heirloom apples. Growing Family Farms will have organic heirloom tomatoes, artisan cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, cubanelle peppers, poblanos, Italian eggplant, summer squash, zucchini, sunnies, watermelons, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice.

Chicory Blue Gardens
will have zinnias in lots of bright colors, black-eyed Susans, and the first lisianthus from the field. Seaway Trail Honey is bringing raw fresh summer honey harvested Friday, other raw local seasonal award-winning honeycomb and honey from spring to fall pure wildflower varieties, from the bees by the shore of Lake Ontario, certified Kosher; Pat will also have live honeybees for the non-profit NY Bee Wellness educational display.

Tripleberry Farm is bringing pesticide-free berries–blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries–plus pesticide-free jams and goat milk soap. Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm will have maple cotton candy, cinnamon & raspberry maple cream spread, maple mustard, pure NYS maple syrup (golden, amber, dark, very dark), maple cream spread, granulated maple sugar, maple garlic rub, maple coffee and tea, wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats, soft and hard sugar shapes, and body care products–maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Clearview Farm is bringing 100% grass-grown Angus beef in a variety of cuts, dry aged for a month; truly free-range organic eggs; and fresh-cut lemon and Genovese basil. Farmhouse Table is bringing pies, breakfast breads, and summer quinoa salad. Lavender Moon will have anti itch spray, Bug Off and Tick Me Off all natural repellents, soaps, soaps, salves, and lotions, and will offer tastes of hibiscus iced tea.

Newbury Park Pastries will have chicken, panang, veggie, and shepherds pot pies along with sweet pies and tarts. Pasta Classics will have gourmet ravioli flavors including kalamata, feta, & sundried tomato; three cheese; and feta & spinach; Nancy will also have new ravioli bakes, cheese gnocchi, and baked stuffed breads. Brian’s Kitchen is bringing traditional and gluten free cookies, almond/coconut and chocolate chip/peanut butter granola bars, and new dairy-free chocolate fudge.
