This Week at the Market – October 14, 2018

At last Sunday’s Brighton Farmers’ Market, a press conference was held to announce that the Town of Brighton will be receiving two $500,000 grants to develop a facility for the winter Brighton Farmers’ Market on Westfall Road. We are grateful to Assembly Leader Joe Morelle, Senator Joe Robach, and Supervisor Bill Moehle for their efforts to secure these grants. We also appreciate the Proclamation from Majority Leader Morelle commemorating the Market’s tenth anniversary. Here’s to the next ten years!

This week at the Market, Growing Family Farms will have certified organic tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, salad mix, baby kale, endive, escarole, romano flat beans, pea shoots, baby red Russian kale, arugula, Italian dandelion, delicata squash, cucumbers, and Singer Farm Naturals tart cherry juice. Bristol Mushrooms is bringing shiitake, king oyster, and lion’s mane mushroom, fresh picked and certified organic.

Andy’s Specialty Garlic & Produce will have certified organic carrots, sweet potatoes, plum tomatoes, salad mix, spinach, arugula, baby kale, green romaine, red leaf and green leaf lettuce, green beans, yellow onions, red beets, parsley, green summer cabbage, red radishes, salad turnips, red and yellow potatoes, pea shoots, and garlic. Bolton Farms will have bibb lettuce, lettuce bouquets, spring mix, watercress, basil, bok choi, parsley, pea shoots, micro greens, and squash — butternut, acorn, delicata, honeynut, and grey kabocha.

K&S Bischoping will have the last of the peaches, Asian pears, quince, and apples including Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, Cortland, Macintosh, Empire, Macoun, and Crispin, and heirlooms including Orange Pippin, Ashmead’s Kernal, Black Gilliflower, Snow, and more. Happy Hooves Organic Farm is bringing cuts of 100% grass-fed and grass-finished Hereford beef, cuts of pasture-raised heritage breed pork including some from American Guinea hogs, roaster chickens from the pastured Freedom Ranger flock and raw honey; all animals are raised on pasture without soy, corn, or wheat.

Stonecrop Farm is bringing fresh certified organic whole chickens, leg quarters, boneless breasbbts, wings, frames, and organ meat, as well as pasture-raised pork chops, roasts, sausage, ground pork, bacon, deli ham, trotters, bones, and organ meats. Shady Lane Farm is bringing sweet potatoes, leeks, green and colored sweet peppers, shishito peppers, cooking onions, garlic, butternut and other squash, pie pumpkins, rainbow chard, decorative gourds, fresh-cut parsley and dill, and colorful flower bouquets.

Shannon Brook Farm is featuring an assortment of pasture-raised, heritage breed, organically processed bacons: jowl, standard, cottage, and bacon ends, as well as certified organic, pasture-raised, whole pekin ducks and whole broiler chickens. R&M Bischoping is bringing the final fresh baby ginger and turmeric of the season, plus celery, kale, tomatillos, hot peppers, cherry tomatoes, pie pumpkins, honey, beeswax lip balms and lotion bars, and lots of honey soaps.

Clearview Farm is bringing certified organic Baby Flower watermelon (juicy and sweet), peppers, (poblano, jalapeno, and sweet green), tasty red Roma and slicing tomatoes, red Swiss chard, sweet corn, gherkin cucumbers, Sunburst patty pan summer squash, zucchini, basil (Genovese, lemon, and Tulsi), dill, garlic, catnip, spearmint, eggs, buckwheat, and organically-fed 100% grass-grown Black Angus beef including steaks, roasts, ground beef, and assorted cuts.

Smugtown Mushrooms will have fresh homegrown oyster, shiitake, and king trumpet mushrooms, and wild foraged maitake/hen of the woods mushrooms, plus mushroom grow kits, kombucha kits, and medicinal mushrooms. Fellenz Family Farm is bringing certified organic potatoes (ADK Red, Red Maria, and Lehigh), onions (red, yellow, and sweet white), garlic, red Russian kale, frilly kale, Siberian kale, Dino kale, arugula, salad mix, Enterprise and Gold Rush apples, pears, sweet peppers, hot peppers, and eggplant.

Lighthouse Gardens will have organic cherry and grape tomatoes; sweet Italian frying, jalapeno, and poblano peppers; eggplant; celery; radishes; hakurei turnips; garlic; green beans; lettuce bouquets; salad mix; beets; carrots; cabbage; kale; ground cherries; herb and vegetable transplants; succulents in pots, planters, and hanging baskets; perennials; hostas; berry plants; organic potting soil; and fall chrysanthemums.

Seaway Trail Honey is bringing fresh raw fall honey — a robust dark amber honey, summer honey — a pale, amber honey; early summer honey — a light sweet honey from basswood/linden blossoms and other wildflowers; honeycomb; cute mini bears; gift packs; certified Kosher; nuts in honey; spice-infused honeys; pure beeswax; and candles, all from the small scale, small batch apiary near Pultneyville by Lake Ontario.

Wohlschlegel’s Naples Maple Farm is bringing bourbon barrel aged maple syrup; maple BBQ sauce; maple cotton candy; maple coated cashews and pecans; traditional, cinnamon, and raspberry maple cream spread; maple mustard; pure NYS maple syrup in golden, amber, dark, and very dark; granulated maple sugar; maple garlic rub; maple coffee and tea; wheat free oatmeal maple dog treats; soft and hard sugar shapes; and body care products — maple vanilla soap, lotion, and lip balm.

Brian’s Kitchen is bringing cookies, granola bars, and chocolate fudge, all items dairy free. Tripleberry Farm will have traditional and reduced sugar jams, fancy chocolate caramel dipped apples with toppings, a small variety of fudge flavors, and lots of goat milk soaps.

RocBucha is bringing bottled kombucha in apple-cinnamon, strawberry-basil, ginger, pineapple-ginger, and blueberry-mint; on tap will be blueberry-mint, pumpkin-clove, and Stronecrop Farm ginger. Lavender Moon is bringing soaps, salves, lotions, culinary blends, cool gourds, and flavored fair trade hot cocoa for frosty fall evenings.

Pasta Classics will have ravioli flavors pumpkin, feta & spinach, and meatball, plus cheese gnocchi and a wide variety of strombolis. Newbury Park Pastries is bringing chicken, veggie, shepherds, panang, shrimp panang, and lobster mac & cheese pot pies, along with pumpkin cut out cookies and seasonal pies and tarts.

JonJohn’s Bakery is bringing pumpkin crunch cake, chocolate chip cranberry cookies, peanut butter balls and chocolate dipped bourbon balls, blueberry muffins, chocolate chip dipped cookies, o’cookie cheesecake brownies, blueberry raspberry muffins, pumpkin muffins, lemon dream cake, four layer chocolate goodness, and mom’s mac &: cheese.

Impact Earth is offering a food waste and compostable wares hauling service at the Market; pick up a bucket and pay a deposit, return your filled bucket next week, and pick up a clean new bucket. Thanks to Impact Earth for collecting trash and recycling at the Market each week to promote our efforts to be a zero-waste Market.
